Just want to say thanks to @JoshFossgreen for the WHY youtube video. Really helped get my head around things and convinced me to get back into this. I started playing bass during COVID and went “all-in” for about 2 years with private online lessons, making cover vids and even building my own bass body, before I hit a plateau practicing, got stuck on theory, and had a few band auditions that didn’t go well (well, one went well, but I was told a 45-year old was too old for a punk band). I stopped practicing regularly and would only occasionally play some youtube tabs.
I picked up my bass again several weeks ago and started trying to relearn all the stuff I forgot and started watching bass videos again and stumbled on Josh’s WHY youtube vid. Made me realize that its ok to just like playing covers in my basement and working at my own pace and that I don’t need to “accomplish” anything. I have been practicing every night and the joy of playing is now coming back and I am going to bed relaxed and in a better mental place. I still want to join a band, but its not a top priority for me at the moment, what with a million family/kid things to do.

At the end of the day, it’s about doing something that brings a little more joy to your life. Nothing more than that is needed.
I enjoyed that video also after coming back from a break. I realized I really like playing bass because I enjoy music. Getting to make or participate in music makes it more enjoyable.
Looking at things from that angle takes a little pressure off when I get into the weeds on the long list of things I need to practice.
If anything, that’s way too young for a legit punk band.

Yeah, I think they were looking for a “lifestyle” punk band and wanted a young guy with a lot of tats to jump around on stage shirtless. 45-yr old dad bod guy didn’t fit his “image.”
