The positive a about cheaper basses is that I don’t hesitate as much to set them up myself (started with my cheapo Ibanez, then played around with the Squier before doing set up on the MIMI jazz) - not sure I would have feel confident to do it on a 2k+ instrument

There is something to be said that a cheap bass is less intimidating to work on.

Hmmmm … I guess I would like to disassemble any bass, no matter the cost. I tend to take apart everything anyway - just to see how it works and how it can be improved…

I would route out a Squier Mustang to fit a wide range Humbucker, I would not route out a Custom Shop Mustang
