I always record clean bass now, no EQ or effects on it. It will either be in passive mode and full tone, or active with the EQ all at noon. I then do all of the tone modification in the DAW.

This is super convenient because you never need to worry about remembering any settings if you want to re-take a part later. It’s also way easier to work with while mixing. And at this point I have more effects in the DAW than I did on my pedalboard anyway (though that ended up costing about the same.)

That’s very close to how it was recorded in the original, and very different from the stock bass tone.
