The Fender Katana MIJ

How many of you have seen a Fender Katana in person?

…I mean, aside of those of you who actually live in Japan.

I was at Guitar Center for my lesson (oh, yeah, I’m taking in-person lessons, my instructor is pretty rad) and someone came in to sell one used. I was there early so I got to see it and play it… the entire store was buzzing about this bass (see what I did there?), as no one had ever seen one in person. I took some pictures of it which I will post in a reply once I switch over to my phone.

It sounded VERY rad, and it was super light. The previous owner wound up selling it to them… I don’t think it will hit the shelves though, I think the store manager absconded with it. LOL.

They aren’t common even here. I’ve seen one but don’t remember seeing others.

Honestly here there is so much competition that it doesn’t make much of a splash, but I bet it goes fast in the US, yeah.

Used one for about $850 at a retailer, could be had for less on the regular used market.

I own a Suzuki Katana (retro)
I own a Warwick Katana 4 string neck through
I even own a Hattori Hanzo Katana blade
But I have never heard of a Fender Katana bass. :joy:

That’s so crazy out of this world design.

I’m counting on you to get one Al, so you can record it and I can live vicariously! :+1:

I’m not great with sharp or V designs. This is my Katana bass

Yeah man the black and pearl one with the pop up light 750cc. I still have them at my house in Thailand.

Along with the cult classic the Kawasaki GP-z 750 and the original Honda CBr 250.

My fave. I have owned one GPz 1100 and two EX-500 (also branded variously as GPz 500 and Ninja 500, depending on market.) All were top tier bikes in their class IMO.

Wow! Ninja 500. In the mid 80s I wanted the 400 so bad, but the used ones were not available to me (at the right price), I go the CBr 400 non faring. Looks so cool. I was 14-15 at the time I had to tiptoe when I stopped or stopped at the curb on one side of my feet so I keep the bike upright. :joy:.

Hey @howard on the plus side, I owned 2 MotoCompo. The brakes were just horrible and doesn’t stop but I love them. I wish Honda bring it back.

I dislike basses that don’t sit in my rack properly. I have 2-3 hangers for such things and they are full so no more.

Wait wait.

Enie Minuten, bitte.

I knew about a bass that @Al1885 didn’t!? And I held it and played it?

I think I might faint.

So, they actually have it on the wall for sale, the manager didn’t abscond with it. $1199. I thought it would be a few hundred more.
