as many of you know i teach art and design, and one of my very favorite things to talk about and projects to give is music video — it is one of my absolutely favorite forms of art. i would love to know your favorite music videos — not your favorite songs that have a video, but your favorite video (you do not have to like the song to love the video). i could list literally hundreds here, but ill start off with a few you may have not seen!
Star Guitar by The Chemical Brothers. Michel Goundry edited the video so the different structures on the ground as you look out of the train window relate to different instruments / beats. Just magic.
Also Walken and Bootsy. What’s not to like?
Groundbreaking in its day
I like this technique of animation.
Edited to add: I also enjoyed the full-length feature film “Loving Vincent,” which used a similar technique.
Land of confusion by Genesis.
1967, one of the early ones
love that bass
Might not be everyone’s cuppa tea and not really bass related. Check out the awesome drum work of Tomas Haake. He had to transform the way he played drums for this song. In an interview he said it took him 6 months to get this song recorded. Pulling it off live is extraordinary. Other drummers like Danny Carey of Tool go to Meshuggah concerts just to take lessons from this human metronome.
I always liked how this video is a single shot with no cuts.
