The PICK thread

I’ve been trying these Raptor picks based on a tip from @gcancella on the Discord:

It’s interesting! Not going to replace Ultex or Tortex for me but I was surprised how different the tone was from each side.

Kind of a gimmick but definitely a large surface to grip. More durable than it looks, worth trying as the company ships free worldwide:

Those just don’t look comfortable. If it was not a tip, I would pass them right by. Still might, as I am still trying to just get a couple thin picks here to use.

Yeah. They are actually kind of neat - but not replacing my Dunlops. But they definitely give different tone from each edge.

Great thinking! Beat it to the punch by loosing the picks on purpose. Fight fire with fire. I like it! LOL

From all that I tried so far (Ultex 3 different thickness, rombos, jazz picks, attak picks), they are by far the most comfortable to me. I find the regular pick shape very awkward, so I could be biased.

Yeah there’s no problem with them for comfort. Kind of big but not annoyingly so.

Thanks for the tip @gcancella, I’ll get a small stock of them to try out. I don’t see them on Amazon, so I guess you have to order direct from the company.

Yep, but they ship for free, and they are not expensive. I ordered four and the guy even signed the letter they were taped to.

$11.56 for a 4 pack of picks is rather pricey to me. I only paid $10.89 for 3 dozen of the Tortex picks.

I meant in general for specialist music items. As in, they weren’t like $20 each or something. This is just a guy that designed and is selling these himself.

But yes, compared to a pack of Dunlops, they aren’t cheap.

Yep. But in all fairness they have more features than regular picks. Still pretty inexpensive for GAS

I use one of those Tortex from a sample pack I got for Christmas. Pretty nice, but they still miss as many strings as all the other picks I use.

You’re ordering the wrong style @JerryP. You need to get those magic picks that find the right string all by themselves.

Not even kidding: I felt that with the Raptors. More than that, I felt I’ve been playing with picks for years. With any other (maybe excluding one model from Rombo) I feel so clumsy I can’t do well beyond conservatively fast speed

I’m not being sponsored, I swear :joy:

I guess that explains why those Raptors are so bloody expensive!

I’ve been getting a lot of Bog Street pick ads served to me on Facebook…

Per @howard recommendation, I’m going to give these a try. I splurged and spent $3.19 on a 6 pack of them.

@terb recommended them to me. They’re great!

I second that. Ultex are great! I love the 1.0

Ever drop your pick? :slightly_smiling_face:
Irritating during practice but embarissing as hell when playing with others or at a jam/gig.

Here is a solution I have used for many years with my 6 strings but may be or interest to those that use a pick on their Bass. Right now I only use fingers.

Textured picks are more expensive than slick ones so I just use a utility knife and score both sides. Works like a charm for me.

This picture also shows how dirt accumulates.
I have always washed my hands before practicing, not so practical at a gig, to help keep the fingerboard and strings clean, but as you can see there is still muck creeping in.
