THEORY or NO THEORY? (strong opinions desired)

It makes a huge difference working on original music. It’s like a shortcut for ideas on what will sound good.

If you just want to play other people’s music it helps in understanding ir.

What I don’t understand is why there is a perceived resistance to learning it. It’s like saying you don’t want to benefit from centuries of other people’s hard work.

I’m enjoying learning the bass, but the music theory is what makes me feel smart and excited.

I wish I could make my hands do what my head knows. I don’t know a LOT of theory but I feel like even if I did, I don’t really have the ability to apply it.

I feel you. In my head, I know so much more than my hands are able to do. Nevertheless it doesn’t worry me too much since I believe that it will come together with time. The movements are unusual for our hands and fingers, so I suppose it’s quite normal that they need some time to adapt the stuff the head already knows.
