Think I'm getting a small blister

On my plucking hand middle finger im not sure but has a small sore spot it’s not incredibly painful but noticeable. I can’t see anything but I could be the begings of a small blister? I have people tell me it is normal as I’m totally new well 5 week on. and others have told me I’m plucking wrong as should not get blisters.

Do I need to go back and reevaluate my plucking technique .?

Bearing in mind how long you’ve been playing how much are you playing daily?

Couple of suggestions

  1. Revisit how to pluck isn’t a bad idea.

  2. Sounds more like a hot spot rather then a blister . Power through it and build a callus.

  3. Learn to use a pick.

At least an hour some times more. I’m home a lot as can’t got out and about that much due to physical limitations. But that includes watching the lessons and stuff

OK I was doing an hour or so first few weeks and got some sore plucking fingertips. Toughened up after a while but I wouldn’t push them so hard that they blister. Just recently life got in the way for me for a while and I hardly played for a few months and, surprise surprise, I got sore plucking fingers for a while when I got going again.

I wouldn’t worry about the technique too much some very experienced bass players talk about getting blisters when they play too much. Mark Smith, another online instructor, talked about getting them when he worked a contract on a cruise ship one time.

So, new to playing and playing too much are both liable to give you that.

I will be taking a day off the bass tomorrow as have football in afternoon. Then daughter has her friends over for a sleep over. But will have ago again on Sunday with some light plucking practice

I’ve had on both hands when I practiced a lot and long hours in preparation for gigs. It’s a small blister now will turn into big blister then it/they will pop then you’ll get a blood blister after that heals your fingers are tour ready, :joy:
