I don’t know how common it is. But found a video on youtube " Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls (Bass Cover) (Play Along Tabs In Video)" This is my goal to play at some point as it is awesome.

Odd bass! Looks like a new take on the Warwick/Spector body shape 
Could be the other way around and Spector cloned this one, hard to say, looks like Washburn has made them for a while.

I think Its due to it looking similar to Josh’s Peavey. But its not. It has jazz pickups. though the pattern is fairly popular
