This is my Second Temu special Glarry fretless bass!

The first thing I did after I received her. Plugged her in to hear her voice. Which I wasn’t impressed with her voice at all. Then noticed that the neck wasn’t even finished. While leaving one volume & one tone for almost a year.

I took her completely apart. Finished the neck with Ebony stain and gloss polyurethane. Then started with the electronics.

I replaced the pickup with a set of alnico 5 pickup from Amazon. Then replaced the pots. With 250K pots, and a 1000uF capacitor. I also swapped the bridge from Chrome to black. I added a wooden thumb rest/tug bar. I also replaced the tuners and used black bushings.

A few months back I bought from Temu. A prewíred 2 band preamp with a blend, and a master volume for my jazz bass.

A few weeks ago I decided to install it on my beautiful fretless. So I took her apart again.

I put her original ceramic pickup back in. Then I installed the preamp. At first I wired the pickup with the 9 volt battery. Which drained one of two 9 volt batteries.

Plugged her back in, and she don’t have any sound. So I swapped out batteries again no sound. I got to thinking about what’s going on with her. When it finally dawned on me. That I have a passive not active pickup.

So I swapped the pickup wires to the blend pot. Which had me cut the two coils and get two single coil pickups instead of just one split coil humbucker.

Plugged her a few hours ago. She sounds great, but she doesn’t have much volume. I have my amps volume maxed out. But, she is still really quiet.

What could be the reason why she is really quiet? I would love and appreciate the knowledgeable help from y’all folks here.

One part of the problem might be that you used a 1000uF capacitor when you should be using a .047uF cap. Assuming you wired it correctly that will filter out most of the tone.

First off I will never use .047 capacitors in any of my basses and guitars! Secondly the blended two band active preamp didn’t have any capacitors installed.

I didn’t have to wire anything. All I did was drill two more holes in the pickguard, and routed out the body some. To get the battery and the preamp circuit board to fit. Thank you for your input I appreciate it.
