Hello, planning on buying my 2nd bass after a PBass, but I can’t really decide between these two. Which one should I go for if I want to cover various genres of music and be just recording at home?

They are both outstanding. For a general purpose instrument I would say the Patitucci signature model (the TRB1004-JP II) gains you little over the TRBX604, but if money is not an object, go for the one that you like more as both will be solid choices.
The standard TRB1004J is 35” scale which makes a lot more difference on the TRB1005J than the 1004. This is a big bass.
I think (but am not sure) it is also MIJ vs the 604 which is made in Indonesia.
I’ve owned a 604 and seen lots of TRB1004’s and really you cannot go wrong here.

I’ve not seen or heard of the JP signature model in 4 string. This is very interesting. 35" scale takes some getting used to. I’d love to get my hands on one for sure. Too bad it’s not a neck through.
Actually this is probably just the J (the non-signature). The Patitucci might just be 5’s and 6’s.
