TRBX174 Bridge "upgrade"

I’m quite happy with this bass. It never comes out of tune or anything, the folded sheet metal bridge just looks cheap and that annoys me on an otherwise ( in my opinion) very attractive instrument.

Does anyone know of a nice looking replacement bridge that is a direct swap, or at least won’t leave me trying to repair preexisting holes or whatnot?

Gotoh 201B should be a direct fit. You may need to scratch off some chrome to expose the bare metal by the bridge grounding. You can install it as is if there’s no hiss and hum then it’s all good but if it hums then come back and fix the issue.

Yeah that’s my go-to bridge, I love them.

I see what you did there

I swear that was unintended

I like the Titanium one, it’s silver-ish and gold Gotoh logo, really cool.

A Babicz FCH Z Series Bridge will work as well albeit at a higher cost.

I love Babicz. The adjustment is a bit quirky but I love how smooth everything feels.

Yeah, famously good bridges.

I prefer Gotoh but that’s just because they are local, inexpensive, and very good.

Yup, once you install one on a bass you don’t want to be without it. I like being able to lock everything down too so that when I change strings as long as I’m using the same ones I don’t need to reset everything.

I have a Babicz FCH Original on one of my Teles too.

Thanks everyone. The Gotoh does look nice and the price is surprisingly low. Thank for the heads up on that.

I don’t like to be negative but the folded sheet metal and exposed springs isn’t my favorite look.

I found this from Axlab ( never heard them before) and I really, really like how clean this looks. I imagine setting intonation would be a nightmare with no screw to nudge. But it’s so clean!

Understood! So - the Gotoh is not folded sheet metal, it’s machined and pretty thick and heavy:

It’s true you can see the springs though.

+1 for Gotoh!

Yes sir,the main body looks nice and beefy. I like that a lot. While the springs are still visible the barrels look nicely finished and the whole things looks much nicer than what I have now.

I machined a thumb rest for myself and considered making my own bridge, but the price of the Gotoh I doubt I’d spend a few hours in the shop making one

I know, they are so reasonable! Love them.

So looks great but won’t play in tune all the way up the neck? Why no way to adjust intonation? Seems kinda useless without that.

Oh hey, I love them too on my Tele

It looks like there are two set screws to set height and a third set screw you can’t see very well but I assume locks the position. I’m guessing it’s one of the designs where you can adjust intonation but you have to pretty much completely loosen the string to do it, then try to bump the saddle the right amount, then guess and check until you get it as close as it’s going to get.

Exactly. I suppose once it’s set you’re good to go, but I’m sure getting in dialed in is gonna be a fun time.

If you enjoy pain you can always go with the saddleless bridge. It sounds very good too.
