There are so many examples of finger exercises for guitar that became songs:
“Satellite” by Dave Matthews. The opening riff was actually a finger exercise that Dave invented while practicing singing and picking at the same time.
“Sweet Child of Mine” was a warmup Slash would do whenever he amped up. One time when he was doing it, Duff began to strum some chords behind it and then Izzy began laying down a bassline. They decided to make that a song.
”Life in the Fast Lane” was a warmup routine that Joe Walsh would do. Glenn Frey heard it and told Walsh to keep it, because it’s a song. So Walsh, Frey, and Henley wrote a song with that riff.
“Stash” by Phish is based on a popular finger exercise used by jazz guitarists.
There are many others.
