Two Basses in one band

I want to start a band with 4 bassists. Basically playing everything a trade band would but we’d have to figure out how to get all of the elements out of basses. Even percussion.

What would be fun is if the roles could move around like all of a sudden this guy over here is slapping beats out of his bass instead of the other guy.

Four basses you say? Done. Where other musicians fear to tread, classical musicians say, “Eh, why the hell not?”:

How about Rothko (not the artist Mark Rothko but named after him):

Not exactly Metal !

Saw someone on Facebook who played in a band with a 6 string bass with lots of effects and a 4 string bassist and drummer. Sounded cool.

I’d forgotten about Ned’s Atomic Dustbin having two bassists. I loved them back in the day and still listen to them now. They used to play stadiums.

Cool!

Speaking of Mike Watt, here’s an interview where he’s discussing his signature Reverend Wattplower Mk II. Mine has the Root Beer Sparkle finish like the one in the video, but is WAY better looking in person.

And playing it.

that color looks so friggin ugly in most pix, but i have a feeling (like your middle pix) that it’s really amazing when you see it.

Yup. The gold sparkle stands out a lot more and the base color is darker than in the photos. Even the headstock is gorgeous.

This one goes out to @joergkutter (back atcha!) -
There’s at least one Superbass album.
I’ll listen to anything with Ray Brown on it… and this is just hilariously great.
So cool.

Was just going to mention Ned’s Atomic Dustbin.

I would say something about great minds thinking alike, but I won’t insult you by dragging your intelligence down to my level.

Hehe, the logistics of this alone…

Doing a bit of a Christian McBride (deep) dive right now

There’s two Bassist’s here… see around 1:16. Though one is only apparently drumming on the strings, it still counts

i also liked them bitd, one of those bands that tends to pop into my head every few years.

I have Gray Cell Green in one of my playlists and still listen to it like monthly or so.

Love this!

Speaking of Ray Brown, I love the work he did with Oscar Peterson. Here’s “There Is No Greater Love” with Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (two basses!).
