Check out the Pixies. Pretty easy basslines.
Easy but they suit the songs perfectly. Gigantic is a blast to play and is simple.
Reviving this thread because I finally got around to giving “Dragonaut” by Sleep a whirl tonight and it was indeed unexpectedly fun to play!
Okay this one gets filed under both unexpectedly fun and unexpectedly difficult to play (for me anyway!) but nailing the rhythm is just delicious
Hey, I liked that a LOT! Nice find. ![]()
Two great tunes! I was bummed to find that these weren’t your cover videos, though! ![]()
Flame suit on……
The Fate of ophelia by Taylor swift
haha yeah… I’ve tried recording with my phone a handful of times but gave up since my neighborhood is really loud at the best of times and somehow every dog on the block seems to know when I’m trying to record anything.
I’ve had “Pam and John’s How to Record Sound” thread open for ages and just need to dive into it!
looks around for any lurking Swifties
The extent of my opinions about Taylor Swift are a) she exists and 2) many people have very strong opinions about her
That is indeed a fun bassline and I really loved the music video! haha seriously tho no flame here. I love giving things a change and being pleasantly surprised!
I think Paz is pretty hot singing and playing in Gigantic!
might be a good one to surprise the wife with. just had a look and it looks quite busy to my untrained eye, is it easy enough to learn?
She sticks with her dancers. Same group as the last couple of tours at least.
*Disclaimer*
I have a 14 year old daughter who is a fan. I’ve grown an appreciation for her because of her success and how she’s willing to move and change as situations dictate.
That said a few years ago Katy Perry hired a bunch of dancers away from Taylor Swift and caused a “beef” between the starlets. Taylor released “Bad Blood” as a diss track.
I guess it also caused Swift to reflect on how she treats her dancers and band members. She is now super loyal to them and expects the same from them in return. I think this is something that now extends all her employees. It’s one of her best qualities that’s often overlooked by critics.
I think it would be an excellent one to learn!
The phrases are pretty simple once you break them down. I took a quick look again just now using Songsterr so take the accuracy with a grain of salt. It’s in 4/4 with some phrases having 5 bars and some having 4. The variations with walking notes vs longer syncopated ones at the end of the bars make it look more complicated than it is and the shifts between strings and up the fretboard are friendly but fun.
Really the key will be nailing the rhythm and rests!
(anyone feel free to correct me if I missed something, didn’t get much sleep last night
)
This is an excellent song! I recently did a bad cover of the studio (here). I then did a far better cover, using the acoustic version as the basis, but YouTube flagged it for copyright infringement!
I’ve done a few covers of TS’s songs. I think she’s great!
Genuinely thought that cover was excellent! But I get it, we’re all our own worst critics. That’s a bummer about YouTube doing the YouTube things. What did you do different based off the acoustic?
Thank you, @myowlhasantlers, much appreciated!
I wasn’t happy with how I played the first chorus on the one I posted. For the acoustic version, I think I played a lot smoother.
As I mentioned, I quite like Taylor Swift. I have an 11 (Daddy, I’m nearly 12) year old daughter who is a bit of a TS fan, so I get to hear a lot of her material. I am determined not to be that father that say, “back in my day…”!!
Last year I played a version of Clara Bow, where I stripped everything, except TS’s vocal, then put some bass in. You’ll find that one here. I was actually quite proud of this one, but can’t really rationalise why I decided to play the bass outside, in front of a rhododendron bush. The neighbours think I’m mad ![]()
I mean, what better use of a rhododendron that this?
Our cats, and the local foxes, love hiding under them ![]()
