Up to date headphone amp recommendation

Hey everyone. I know there are a few older posts about this one but I’m hoping you guys can help me with some headphone amp suggestions. I’m going to be travelling in July (Wooten Woods!) and I’d like to find something I can plug into my little Steinberger for practice and quiet play. I won’t have a computer or anything with me so I’m just looking for a straight up headphone amp. Maybe bonus points if it has a tuner

Katana Go. It sounds amazing. Built in tuner. Stream music / drum app wirelessly from your phone via Bluetooth. :metal:

I don’t own it yet so don’t take this as an actual recommendation, but I’m gonna go out tomorrow and get a Fender Mustang Micro Plus. It’s got a tuner, bluetooth in for playing along with music from your phone, USB out for recording to a PC if you ever want that.

That Katana Go looks pretty comparable though, so now I’m considering that one too.

Is there a new version of that one? I thought I saw some posts about that a while back.

I do like the Spark Neo quite a bit. I play guitar as well, and it has a lot of effects that (to my ear) sound a bit better than the Fender Micro. But, if you already have a good set of headphones, it might be a little overkill.

Wooten Woods!!! Wow, that sounds amazing…please report back

That is the new one. They withdrew it briefly after launch (I can’t remember the details, something about supply chain issues maybe?) and it was out of stock for a while.

A few of us on here have one.

But it’s pretty new.

I can’t see buying a headphone amp that doesn’t do anything else making sense in 2025. You might as well get a multi effect pedal with a headphone out.

You don’t need power for the Katana Go.

Rechargeable internal battery.

That might be a good reason. I take mine camping and it’s all I need (Kala U bass, headphones and Go).

Rumor has it that the original model has far superior electronics components.

I started it

Yeah! That’s what I heard, too (just now, from @Al1885)! :scream_cat:

+1 for the Katana Go, it’s super easy to use, great form factor. And sounds great.

That said, I’d be half tempted to try out one of these new-fangled Valeton GP-5 mini-pedals which has headphone out.

(Not to mention a good selection of effects, freaking NAM capability, a tuner, and it’s stupid cheap.)

Edit: No idea if it would be available in time for a July trip.

I kinda want purpose built and small. I’ll check out the multi pedals but I probably have too many pedals at this point

I got the Nux Mighty Amp not too long ago and I love it.

Because of their size, I can see a use case for having 2 of these on my pedalboard. 1 at the end for running NAM profiles and drum machine stuff and another one in my FX loop as a wildcard multi effect for anything not covered by my plethora or that I’m wanting more of (like, who couldn’t use 4 reverbs at a time amirite).

I was looking at that one but for the price I wonder if the katana would be better

Are they selling them anywhere? It looks great but stock seems short.

Nope, I think they release on June 9th or 10th. They’re just taking preorders right now. I’ll get 1 ordered next week when I get paid. I’ve pushed my lovely bride as much as I’m willing to the past month with bass stuff.

What’s your budget? Boss Waza Air Bass headphones look pretty good.

I would neither get the Spark Neo (no audio interface option) nor the Spark GO (latency issues).

The Katana or the Fender are great solutions. Had them both.
I would listen to whatever @Al1885 recommends. Audio/effect quality, functionality/features, (App) UI/UX and (possibly) reuse of presets are important factors…

I love my Neo. I think I have all of them😅 but I use only the Neo every day. Katana Go would be my second choice.
