What I currently often use for practice is that I have my Bass directly connected to my computer via a Focusrite Solo and I just monitor it with Reaper. Only effect I added in Reaper currently is a little bit of compression. I have some Yamaha monitoring speakers attached to my computer which are then used also for the bass. Those aren’t very boomy as they only have 5" speakers, but it is enough for me.

This is exactly what I do too (except with JBL monitors, not Yamaha.) I haven’t owned an amp for about two years.

It’s so unfair how watt for bass compares against guitar amps. I can literally shake walls with just a 20w guitar amp

It’s ridiculous how loud a tube guitar amp can get at moderate wattage. The only time I turned my 35w amp past 4, my neighbor, who had been mowing his lawn while I was practicing, stopped me later to compliment how Sultans of Swing was coming along

I agree, I have a 5w tube head and cab. It has a low(er) power option of just 0.5W, which is what I use - home use only. Even at that low power setting I don’t need to turn it up more than half-way when practicing.
