Very Very Stupid question

Hey guys! I’m planning of visiting Stow-on-the-wold in England, to go around and see what was it like, to stay in the same neighbourhood as The Great John Entwistle…and I was wondering, its old news, that he had a private burial and his ashes were scattered on his mansion grounds, but because, I’m a busy-body and I have nothing better to say for the time being, is there a, physical, gravestone, of him? like, at St Edwards, church, or something? Or am I going to have to break in to somebody’s 7-million pound mansion?

maybe, though…I looked all over the web, but I couldn’t find anything about, some secret, Grave tho.

Here, I asked Gemini for you  most of the info is referenced as coming from thewho.com and wikipedia:

You definitely do not want to break into Quarwood.

While it is understandable that you want to pay your respects to “The Ox,” you are correct that this is old news: John Entwistle was cremated and his ashes were scattered privately on the grounds of Quarwood, his estate.

Because Quarwood is a private residence (and has changed owners since his death), there is no public grave or physical marker for him there that you can visit legally. Trying to enter the grounds would indeed be trespassing on a private 40+ acre estate.

However, you don’t have to leave empty-handed. There are two legitimate “pilgrimage” spots in Stow-on-the-Wold where you can pay your respects without risking arrest.

1. The Blue Plaque (The Real “Marker”)

Since you are looking for a physical object to visit, this is your best bet. In 2017, a Blue Plaque was unveiled to honor Entwistle.

  • Location: The Royal British Legion Club, Well Lane, Stow-on-the-Wold.

  • Why there? In 2000, Entwistle famously stepped in to play bass for a local band, The Stowaways, at a charity gig held at this venue. It is a great spot to take a photo and acknowledge his connection to the town.

2. St Edward’s Church

While he is not buried in the churchyard, this is still a significant location for fans.

  • The Connection: This is where his funeral service was held on July 10, 2002. It was attended by Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, and many others.

  • What to see: The church is famous for its north door, which is flanked by two ancient yew trees (often said to look like the Doors of Durin from Lord of the Rings). It is a very atmospheric place to sit quietly and remember him, knowing this was the last place his friends and family gathered for him.

Summary for your trip:

  • Do not go to Quarwood expecting to see a grave; it is private property.

  • Do visit the Royal British Legion to see his official Blue Plaque.

  • Do visit St Edward’s Church to see where the funeral took place .
