We Want the Funk! (new documentary)

This seems to be off of the radar of most; it does not even have an IMDB page (but is on LetterBoxd).
Watch it while you can, not everything is freely accessible (at least in Europe) on the PBS site, so this may be a momentary glitch.

Gotta love a documentary when the first thing on camera is Marcus Miller…

Great find! Thanks for posting. It’s currently available here in France. I bookmarked it. We’ll see how long that lasts. There are some good comments by Marcus Miller, among others.

Watched it a couple weeks ago when it aired on our PBS. It’s a good show.

It came across my YouTube feed today, and I am watching it now.

How bassist focused is it? It opens with just Marcus Miller alone in a studio, sitting down, picking up a bass, and playing a slap groove.

32:45 “Funk that is so powerful that you can’t run from it.”

Kid runs screaming down the road, pursued by man in bell bottoms with platform shoes playing funk. Tempo is increased because he is running. Is still funk. Inescapable funk.

The full documentary is available on YouTube for anyone who’s interested.

You mean the one that @BeerBaron helpfully linked to just above your comment or is there a different documentary about funk?

Watched it tonight and loved it. Thanks for sharing!

Was watching this just now and was interrupted by the arrival of my Sire Marcus Miller U5.

(Not on YouTube, but still available on PBS Passport. Passport is only a few dollars a month and totally worth it. So many good things on Passport!)

Love PBS and am pretty pissed about what’s happening to them and NPR. Such great free resources for anyone.

100% there’s so much good stuff on passport, by far my favorite streaming service. I just hope they can survive in some form the next few years until they can be made whole again.

Haha that’s strange…I watched the documentary as well and ended up with a v7 vintage…just the one marcus miller was holding in his hands.

This originally aired just a couple of days after my V5 showed up.
