Well this happened

I prefer paper, I typically use musecore to create the paper. It’s got a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it can be really quick.

I also really find it helpful when I want to create exercises as I can create linked score and tab along with chords so it can be helpful in creating fingerings to strengthen your weakness.

Here’s a little mashup of my first gig. I was super nervous. Made my share of mistakes. Lots of room for improvement, I managed to lock in a few times. It was a blast. Next gig is a couple of weeks out and I can’t wait.

Well some update - finally the first gig with the band… Saturday! Event link (any case you’re in Budapest more than welcome to join us for the event): https://www.facebook.com/events/2068042017294315/

Setlist is net 45-50 minutes so we’ll be on stage for one hour, with a friend’s band following us for the rest of the evening. Had a rehearsal yesterday and will have the last one Friday, getting excited - but also more confident as not much f.ckups without quick recovery any more. Sound is getting better (I believe) but let’s see how FOH sounds.

Band’s page (I’m the admin, so might not be overengineered / too professional): https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61584077554808

Will share footage afterwards so better follow the page to see me fail or succeed

Hi Totya! Looking forward to your update(s) after the gig.

I want to point out that if you are up on stage playing a gig for an audience, there is no fail. You have succeeded already. As you gig more often, you will go from good to better to best! :+1: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

So finally hit the stage last night, band sounded awesome (managed to recover quickly from screw ups that happened quite a few no matter at rehearsals all went perfectly), had lots of friends attending, have the material (mix from PA and also all tracks from the mixer exported) and videos/pictures under post processing…. I will post if anything is ready, mostly focusing on our own songs of course.

I went to PA (from my Behringer BDI21) and also to the other band’s bassist’s 4 Ohm 410 through my Elf (gain at 6 master at 2 and sounded nearly too loud  Love this little amp ), stage sound was awesome, crowd complained about the guitars not loud enough in the mix but according to the other band we sounded just fine.

Debuting my real self here with a pic from the gig (as mentioned the pro footage will come later):

P.s.: also celebration of my 50th bday was due last night so today’s focus is trying to stay alive

Edit: adding bass face as turns out it exists for all of us :joy:

Here was my rig for my 2nd gig. I was much more comfortable this time, had a good crowd most of the night. Had a few dancers, which was fun. One of the patrons told me I was an “absolute vibe” and to “never change”. And she tipped a crispy franklin. Pretty nice compliment.

Added a new song tonight, “Can’t You See” Marshal Tucker Band. Jammed it out, everyone took a solo, it was fun. Keys nailed the “flute” solo. Next show is 1/31.

Gig 3 is in the books. By far this was my favorite so far. I’m comfortable with the setlist and its growing. We have 3-4 in the pipe and debuted 2 this week. We are building up the list for a 4 hour gig in May. We added Chain of Fools and up on Cripple Creek.

Speaking of setlist.

Learning the 1st 30 songs was my least favorite experience in bass. Spending an hour or so everyday for a few months was brutal to my Attention Deficit tendencies. I felt like my growth was being stunted and the plateau was real. I powered through though. Well, im here to tell you that it turned into one of the best things I did. Not only am I in a band that gigs a few times a month, I have a ton of materiel that will serve as my bass “base” for a while. The cherry on the sundae is when you re-open the brain to new things, growth happens really quickly.

I’m not the same player that I was when I started learning the setlist. I hear and see things differently. I’m less robotic and more musical. I’m not thinking about my left hand as much and I’m trusting myself more. A confident mistake is better than meek and correct.

Next gig is Valentines Day.

That is awesome. I just joined a band. We’ve been a little delayed due to holidays and weather, but I do agree. Learning tunes is both a pain and very rewarding. How do you get your gigs? We are close, and have no idea on how to do it. Thx

I’m fortunate enough that the singer is an established solo artist so he books most of the gigs with his contacts and reputation. We are booked through 2026 and just took a wedding gig for June 2027.

I was a chef for long time so I have have a lot of contacts in the restaurant industry which have produced a few bookings.

We also got a couple of gigs through an open mic night at a local place. The drummer, myself and the singer/guitar player went down to what was essentially an audition/open mic night. We did 3 songs and got booked the next day.

Currently we are upping our social media presence by posting some videos. The goal there is to have a landing pad for people to see us in action. We also invite interested parties to our current gigs so they can get a look at the customers we draw. While the video i posted above looks sparse, we had a full bar off camera, basically under where the video was shot.

At the end of the day its a joint business venture for the venue and the band and should be treated as such. It has to be beneficial to both parties. It’s your job to put asses in the seats and keep them entertained.

We are also looking to move out of our home territory over the course of the next year to new markets once we solidify our reputation locally. Our goal is regional tours a couple time per year with local stuff in between.

Our singer and guitar player is Whiskey Graves and we are The Whiskey Graves Band. This page is mostly his solo stuff but the band stuff is posted here as well. Whiskeygraves.com is the website and he also posts on Reverb nation.

I’m really hoping that’s the name on his birth certificate.

I hate to disappoint, so I won’t. That said my idea for a band name was Whiskey and Bad Cocaine that was described in Little Feat’s Spanish Moon. It’s a banger if you havn’t heard it before. Lots of unapologetic P-Bass.

That’s a great song. I haven’t heard it in a long time. Awesome bass line recorded and mixed very well for a live recording. Super cool with the video. The Super Deluxe version of Waiting For Columbus has 73 live songs, remastered in 2022, with a run time just over 7 hours. I created an Amazon Music playlist with just that album in it.
