Songster couldn’t make decent tabs for this song, if anyone would make tabs for this the funk will be on your side forever.
James Brown Live Zaire 1974
Believe it or not, Al just toured Twitch and With Sympathy, finally embracing them as the great albums they were
He’s more or less reclaiming those songs now, and recently did a really great interview about it.
You can tell the band is totally having fun with it.
I liked that song in the 80s. But then I also liked this:
Freur = Underworld
PS Do you have a link to that interview? I think it’s always a good idea to embrace the sins of youth - at least to make fun of it!
Now that’s a blast from the past. And yeah I am an Underworld superfan; dubnobasswithyourheadman is one of the best albums of all time.
Yep! She did a really good job of getting him to talk
1000% agree. That album came at the pinnacle of electronic music (Prodigy “Music for the Jilted Generation”, Leftfield “Leftism”, Bomb the Bass “Clear”, Orbital “Snivilisation”, FSOL " Dead Cities", Apollo 440 “Electro Glide in Blue”, Propellerheads “Decksandrumsandrockandroll”, The Orb “Orblivion”, Meat Beat Manifesto “Subliminal Sandwich”, Autechre, The Black Dog, Aphex Twin etc.).
EDIT Oh, and I find it’s culmination in the WipeOut (game) soundtracks from that time
The Wipeout soundtracks were legendary. I used to work for one of the lead devs too
At the time I was video game producer for Epic. I always said, if I had done “Wipeout”, I would never do anything else anymore, as this is as good as it gets - it can NEVER get better!!!
I envy you!
Etta James-I’D RATHER GO BLIND
Watched Cadillac Records-movie last night. GREAT MOVIE and music. I am going to watch again.
Etta James -WOW she is now one of my favorite artists. Not many artists can pull out of me such emotion as she does. I suppose I will only be able to take her in small doses.
If you are unfamiliar with her life and career, here’s a good bio.
Another singer you might want to check out is Ernestine Anderson, a great blues artist. She’s not Etta James, but IMO, she’s close. Never Make Your Move Too Soon.
As long as we’re on great lady singers, here’s another of my favorites. Great voice. And Paul Denman on bass. Love his basslines. Refined groove!
One more killer Paul Denman bassline. He’s the bassist that really got me jonesing for a Stingray.
In case anyone is interested, here’s the entire show. Sooo good.
I liked her in the 80s, but I always found her a little “cold”.
Fast forward … 2002. Got the Lover’s Live DVD … and fell in love!
Her voice was much better now, warmer, imperfect, but that made it more intense … you can hear that she has lived!
And also she was as beautiful as she ever was!
Did I mention that I fell in love?
This is my favourite song from that show (except for the little scream somewhere near the end).
Also … I was waiting for the orgasm of the guitar player all the time. He was surely pleasuring himself while playing.
You know it when you see it
With the new year almost upon us, I find myself vocally enunciating the new digits of 2025 for upcoming daily use, business, etc… in saying it, it almost “sounds” akin to the title of this 60’s futuristic tune…
(I still have the original 45 of this.)
my wife got me bday tix to see her on the last tour, so good. her last album soldier of love was tremendously overlooked.
I’ve posted these guys before, a post-metal band I like from Barcelona. I was just thinking of this one as an excellent use of a J-bass in post-metal.
I could be hearing things … But it sounds like there is 2 bass tracks in that… 1 clean… and 1 processed … I may be wrong … but just what I think I’m hearing.
Really cool stuff tho! Liking it!
