Based Band Maid enjoyer. Most excellent:
Kate is an icon, but we have her to thank also for singing with a head mic while doing choreographed routines. Common now, especially Kpop and Jpop, but she was the pioneer.
Apparently Yakui was the first maidcore artist; the genre kicked off because of his music. It’s now basically a bunch of crazy Russians who went Deep Weeb on the band themes.
His stuff is really, really good, though. Kind of a mashup of breakcore and post-metal.
Might surprise some folks I like these guys but I’ve loved them since I was like 12 and they are a guilty pleasure.
Back in the day I used to call The Replacements “Drunk Cheap Trick”
Guilty, shmilty. Cheap Trick is one of America’s greatest rock and roll outfits and I will not hear otherwise.
My first real rock concert. Arizona State Fair. The concerts at the fair were free with your fair admission…and student admission in those days was fifty cents. They played two shows, and my friend Rob and I went to both. At twenty-five cents per show it might be the best purchase I’ve ever made.
When Rick Nielsen, during his solo, pulled his picking hand away from the guitar and kept playing just trills, young wanna-be guitarist me thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Play it loud and proud, son, 'cause it still kicks ass 47 years later.
The other cool thing about them is that apparently they are all great guys.
…And 12 String Bass!
They were a blast to party with. A girl I dated in Madison while at the University went to high school with them down around Rockford, IL. I got to meet them when they were still a club band. Plenty of laughs and “consumables”. Great band!
Spotify popped this one up. Some “tasteful” over the top slap
And because I’ve never posted this “Lounge Act” to the Lounge section of this page:
I love Lounge Act
I realised when I more recently tried to play it after many years, my teenage self had learned it slightly wrong (from CD listening) - I need to train myself out of that now
Here’s a superior review of the great James Jamerson’s bass lines by Scott and Ian. Sometimes, they talk too much, but here, it’s WORTH IT!
