I only listen to the tunes I’m playing at the time while I’m playing them. Occasionally I will listen to a song without playing it but this happens a couple times only with unfamiliar songs while seeking the particulars of the bass movements..
This song below is one that took many tries just to get a little groove of familiarity.
I mostly post the Songsterr link as it was the last song I played before my take 5 break and it’s really cool Jaco.

What songs are you and everyone actually playing when you play bass?
I’m looking to expand my song list, so please share what your playing…
I’m disabled and I have intractable pain issues, so to be honest I listen to music for pleasure and for a distraction from all that, and there’s no limit to what I’ll listen to. It doesn’t have to be bass heavy for me, And I definitely don’t need to be able to play it, I would get super bored, I listen to music all day everyday. I don’t really listen to music for goal-oriented reasons I guess. I can get that though. Everyone’s different.
But as far as what I’m playing on bass, right now I’m focusing on my lessons which have partial baselines to songs, and I’m in module 5. I don’t try to play much else outside of the lessons, because Josh has the song pack locked down until module six and I’m sure he has a good reason for that. For me I think it’s best that I stay focused until he says, “now go try the song pack". I don’t have a talent for music, and I need him there still at this point to tell me exactly what to do so that I know exactly what I’m doing wrong when I do it wrong.
However, In the vein of always giving myself very good advice but seldom ever taking it, on the side I am sounding out Seven Nation Army on my own for ear training. I want to see how close I can get. I actually started it on a little piano app and then I couldn’t resist and picked up the bass for it.

Good plan = stick with the program, the BB course can really do a lot for building you into a successful, having fun bass player…
