What are you listening to right now?

Nice. Anime style video for a song that sounds like an anime soundtrack. Style was spot on.

Wojtek, funky with a looper and some effects:

Man, i love that guy. Killer lines.

Thanks!

I’ve just finished season 1 episode 5 (fighting the urge not to binge the series) and there was a great song - Rain I think? Definitely growing on me

It’s hard to overstate how good it is.

It’s all the work of a very famous anime composer named Yoko Kanno. She’s incredible, and has done some amazing soundtracks and scores. Probably her most famous work after Cowboy Bebob was Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

She’s one of, if not the most prolific anime composer, and I would describe her as “universally loved”. She’s also apparently a very nice and humble person despite her accomplishments:

Her work for Macross Plus led to one of the most popular Original Soundtracks in Japan; composed by her, performed by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, with some stellar singers guest singing.

This is pretty cool information Howard. I have been a huge Macross+ fan and I still get the chills hearing that soundtrack again. That mini serie was so well produced in art and sound. Sheesh, talk about a blast from the past.

I still got the VHS tapes somewhere

Little Evangelion groove with Babymetal. Amazes me how good Su was also 16. If asked why Babymetal, I’m a sucker for Su’s voice

The shadowy figure dancing is Yoko Kanno, composer, conductor, producer

If you watch the seatbelts live, that’s how she conducts, though a little toned down.

She’s just… amazing. Composes the best stuff, brings together exactly the right people to perform it, plays multiple instruments herself. Keeps both tight and loose associations with the people she works with, mixing up some great combos.

It’s really too bad that Origa passed so soon.

They’re just always great. I did fear for the hanging bouncing woman a bit.

Every subset of that band is amazing live. Byrne with a backing band, Tom Tom Club doing a Heads set, etc. So good.

I watched the trailer for Everything Is Illuminated, a movie I had intended to see but missed. It featured this song by DeVotchka, which made me think of Little Miss Sunshine, and Sufjan Stevens’ excellent song, Chicago
