I like that tune. I played it while I was doing B2B, too. Just felt right.
I think rhythm wise it’s a good one for me to get out of “thinking” and more into “feeling.”
Honestly, that’s the best way. Seek out other beginners. Chances are, you’ll find other people stuck in the same place.
Is it a problem that my plucking hand naturally wants to start with the middle finger? When the tempo gets fast I notice my middle finger wants to be the dominant/starting finger. Otherwise, I am doing pretty good at alternating besides stopping the pattern and resetting. That is hard.
Its not really a problem but I would try and be proficient both ways and play the one makes most sense based on what you’re playing.
I got a bit derailed as I slipped on some hidden ice and acquired a grade 1 wrist sprain but I’m back to it and hitting the syncopation module.
Now alternating plucking thus far has not been much trouble for me, but something about combining the new rhythm trick, and the muting and staccato issues in Dreams, made my brain just absolutely malfunction on the plucking hand. It said, “we are gonna pluck the first note with the index finger and the second note with the middle finger and that is that.”
Anyway, winter sucks and is dangerous, watch out for slick flat ice under banana-peel-esque fluffy nonadherent snow.
Plucking. I think I pluck to hard, or maybe too much with downward trajectory. When I pluck my fingers hit the pickups with ends with a “flap” sound - and I think it also impacts my plucking speed. The strings ring free though. I work around it a bit by plucking more near the neck in front of the pickups but then my thumb has no rest when I need to play the E-string.
I think I’m the opposite!
I tend to pluck very lite when it gets complicated. I’m trying to work on being constant but this only seems to come once I am confident in the fretting & or the plucking.
I’m also trying to get the plucking force right. I started off plucking WAY too much. This is a holdover from my school orchestra days! But that leads to finger pain (we played with a bow most of the time, so I didn’t pluck as much back then and also I was much younger…)
I think there’s a lot of variation in plucking force. I’ve heard some people say they almost just “brush” the top of the string, relying on the amp, vs people who dig in more.
I know that sometimes people use compression which will hide this as it will level out the volume, but that isn’t a solution. Something I’ve been doing is overemphasizing the 1 beat, so I’m plucking hard on the 1 and the plucking on the other beat even out, I think because it makes me more conscious out the strength of the plucking.
Hi! I have a question about my plucking hand. I just started two weeks ago and I’m trying to build good habits. I pull across the strings with my index and middle finger and hit the lower string as Josh teaches. All is good there. The strings are perfectly muted. But when I lift my fingers to pull across again, I hit the strings again on the way up and this causes double ringing on the string. How do I correct this?
If I only could
Play trip-e-lets with ease
And maintain them for five whole minutes
I’d be galloping along
Playing “Running Up That Hill”
With no prob-le-hems…

Last few day I have struggled with last lessons of module 11. I know Josh says as long as to can do the slow workout then that’s fine. I can do the slow work outs 90% of the time and I still find it hard sometimes. But I’ll push on although a little disappointed I couldn’t do better.
You’re a poet, and you never even acknowledged the fact that you were one.
Totally agree with struggling on 11! But I’ve done it and now Octaves what I’ve been wanting to learn!!
oh s**t octaves are not as simple as I’d hoped! Practice required for maintaining the hand shape
Keep practicing @Mktony32
I struggled with the last two lessons. on the James brown I cant seem to ge the last fill in time and on last one was to fast for me to maintain the finger roll. also still developing being able to stretch fingers more.
Isolate it, loop it, slow it way way way down until you have it, then increase by 2bpm as you nail it til back to speed - then, go a bit faster than 100% - then you’ll have it
To be fair that’s what I have gone back too. Slowed it right down .
Not dissimilar to myself, the finger roll I find ok but I agree on the speed.
I hate playing past the 12th fret and I don’t wanna do it.
