Collecting good looking picks is, of course, a habit. Next up for me might be the Momose Sakuras.
Yup I was guessing, a lot of guitarists love the Jazz style picks.

Momose Sakuras.
Do they come in a pink handbag?
No they come with a $3000 bass or guitar that is made with of some of the most gorgeous craftsmanship you will ever see.

Hell, in that case, get two basses. Picks are easy to lose.
Memorization! I’ve been practicing Still Got the Blues - Gary Moore. Absolutely fantastic song! I can play along with the bass tabs just fine, but when I try to do it with just the play along with Youtube or Spotify, man, I get lost! What are some tips or tricks you (anyone) can give me to memorize the piece all the way through.
Typically, I just play the song a bunch of times until I’m going off of muscle memory. If I struggle with a certain song, I’ll break it up into sections (get the verse down, then the chorus etc.) and once I feel comfortable there, I put the pieces together.
So, take a section at a time and loop it over and over until it sticks?
Yep, exactly. What I’m trying to do is get it down to a point that I’m not thinking about upcoming notes and just playing them. Doing that, I find myself not looking at the tab nearly as much. Then I start playing along to the track I’ve removed the bass line from.
Awesome! I will give that a try. Thank you so much!
A section at a time is the way to go.

Are there any exercises you all recommend?
Yep, just keep doing it.
I was really annoyed at a private instructor who told me (when I asked “how do I play with a pick”) “you just play”.
Turns out he was right. Just keep doing it. And you’ll realize the hardest part about playing with a pick is focusing on your muting via palm and fretting hand. It’s just another skill that needs time and, what none of us have, patience.

I would shy away from the gimmick picks like the Rombos. They aren’t any better and frankly are just kind of odd. And very expensive.
For me, the right Rombos are totally awesome, and I prefer them greatly over the Tortex. At least unless you lose them, they last forever, while a Tortex Pick showed wear after 5 Ramones songs.
Their variety packs have a few picks that are totally unfit for Bass, though. Finding the right pick can be really expensive with them.

Rombos are totally awesome
You must be from Germany
Yes I am.
Hm, maybe that is why I just like overengineered stuff, like the Rombo picks
Picks for getting a certain tone are way underrated, though.

I just like overengineered stuff
Yeah - all those years in Germany must have had severe impact on me: I also like overengineered stuff
As my picks are flying around often when practicing I have to admire the flow properties of the Rombos. Pretty sure that they tested them in a wind tunnel!?

Lol it’s a plastic pick @Malyngo Talk me through the engineering requirements
Well, let’s compare.
is quite a difference. The Rombo picks have different areas, smooth surface for the area that hits the string, grippy area where you hold it.
To me, the Rombo picks feel much better and it is worth the price difference for me.
Some people here spend a fortune on basses because of how they feel, I spend a little more on picks because how they feel.
