I haven’t been playing long, favorites so far is pretty much anything I can sort of make sound like the original. I’m still not full speed with these, but I’m working my way there…
Pixies “Where is my mind”
The Cure “Fascination Street” (I know its repetitive, but I’ve always loved this song)
Smashmouth “Allstar”
Repetitive, driving, effective basslines are the core of post-punk. Nothing wrong with it at all.
I struggle to get through the whole five minutes. There is a tension that builds through the whole song that makes it so hard.
That whole album has subtle stuff like that going on. I love the bassline for Disintegration and that song has the same kind of slow burn thing.
Definitely, at my level I’m lucky to still be playing when the vocals start…

“The Cure” is bad A**, I also like Aerohat and Fogsmith. Moron Five ain’t too bad either !

I started learning bass by playing a lot of Joy Division songs. Peter Hook knows what’s up. Often fiddle around on those to warm up.
He’s definitely my bass hero. JD basslines are a lot of awesome. Disorder and Means To An End are probably my faves.

We Play It As G# D# E B x2 & G# D# E B slide into G x2
Throughout our version , I add a leading note or a 3rd or a 2nd , basically I play two strikes on the root , bounce on a leading note , and come in to the boom for the next root note. We perform this tune as a silky smooth flirting with a funk vibe.
