Can anyone give me ideas on what is a good bass to buy I’ve got a very cheap maxbass and would like to get a better one that’s not too expensive
Thank you I will have a look
It’s not shown in the video but definitely check out the BB234. That was my first bass and I really feel like I made a good decision with that. If you have enough for a BB434 that would be even better
Lovely I will check that out
Don’t be afraid to venture out to another Yamaha model like the TRBX 304. they are pretty awesome as well.
While you are in hunting mode also check out another gem. Sire bass. many models to choose from and they are all punching way above the price point.
Not to open another can of worm if you can still find store that sells Squier 40th anniversary models, they are definitely worth checking out. Each model and color offer something unique beside kick a$$ build quality, color and components. They are about the same quality as the Classic Vibe series but cheaper and better looking.
Fantastic thank you
Is the ibanez gio any good .
I can wholeheartedly recommend Sire. They are exceptional basses.
It’s ok. It’s a very popular “student” model due to its price.
Just remember this. The cheapest attrition of any electric bass you are shopping for is going to be sound. It’s also the cheapest upgrade. The most expensive part of any aside from the brand batches would be “feel”
Don’t take this the wrong way but the big plus for being a beginner is the lack of exposure to different range of instruments so it’s safe to say every new shiny bass would feel good to you and not to mention sound great as well.
The smuckness and snobbishness doesn’t come in to the picture until much later as your perception of quality becomes much narrower when it comes to acquiring new instruments.
This is an example of some of what the Squier sounds like. Note that except for the Short Scale none of the Squier cost more than $400 actually I paid about $200-250 each when they are on sale. That’s rule number one of buying right? Buy one when there’s good deal and not when you need it,
The contemporary and the blue/gold P bass is bone stock.
Do you have a budget - range or target? “Not too expensive” is very relative.
Really the best thing to do is to go to a store and just try a bunch of different options. Look for the one that feels most right in your hands and is going to make you most excited to play.
If you find something you like that is just above your target price, but you really like it - spend the extra money. At the budget level, a little bit of extra money often gets noticeably nicer equipment.
Thank you for the advice it’s helped me so much I will try a few basses to find the one that feels good
Definitely seek out Sires then. Their feel, materials and build quality are amazing.
I only started playing a couple of months ago so I am certainly no expert. I started out with a Fender Player II P bass but I struggled getting my fat fingers over the fretboard. I picked up an Ibanez Talman TMB30, a short scale and it has been a little easier for me. The quality of the Ibanez is lower than the Fender but I am really liking the short scale.
Yes. Sires or Yamahas would be my recommendation, quality is a step up from other brands in the price tier.
Cort can be the same way but often isn’t.
I really think that Yamaha and Sire are the two most “never wrong” basses. They’re not always the ideal bass for an individual that feels “just right”. But they never feal wrong.
I started on a Squier Sonic Precision and got a Sire V5 as my second. One of the best decisions I’ve made so far this year.
V5 has one of the best necks I’ve ever played
Absolutely! My V8 neck is killer. So are the necks on my U5 shortie and M5 modern long scale. Sire rolled-edge necks are sweet feeling.
The V5/V8 and U5 have a 9.5” fretboard radius.
The M5 has a 12” radius.
This my first bass:
Stingray Ray4.
I really like It.
