What is a good budget 6 string bass to get?

I’ve always been a lifelong Primus fan, but then I realised…I dont have a six string bass. So, I would love to hear your recommendations for 6 string basses. Budget is about $400-$600 and above. thank you!

If I had a similar interest, I 'd try looking for a used Ibanez or Schecter at that price range…

ESP LTD B206. Solid bass - I mean solid, you could fight off zombies and then play a gig

Yeah, my first bass was (and I still have and enjoy) the ESP LTD B205. Its solid and heavy for sure - I’m keeping it around for the zombie apocalypse - and as a back-up.

If the Fender isn’t the thing, I’d echo @Bassic’s suggestion of the Ibanez or Schecter.
Ibanez has very killer mid-range stuff.
I don’t know their modern line that well, but a used Soundgear 6 string should be right in that price range, and I had good experiences with that line of basses.

I don’t know Schecter as well - they tend to do more visually, but sometimes they play/sound great as well. But they do get heavy.

I was just going to suggest an ESP LTD. I’ve got an LTD five fretless and it’s amazing. Tends to get as much attention as my Spector because of how stunning the wood looks.

I should note that I see these pop up on Facebook marketplace all the time for SIGNIFICANTLY less than normal retail. There are two on my local right now. One for $375 and one for $420 and they’re both in near mint condition. I think people get them thinking they’ll be the next Thunder Cat, discover that it’s REALLY hard and then sell them after barely playing.

ESP and Schecter are owned by the same dude, and are of a similar quality fwiw.

Well…. maybe LTD and Grassroots. Edwards and up are nicer than non-MIJ Schecters IMO.

The MIJ Schecters are pretty nice though, and like full ESP, expensive.

I would put Sire, non-MIJ Yamaha, ESP LTD and the export Schecters all on about the same level though, yeah. With some exceptions anyway (Taiwan Yamahas were top notch IMO, etc)

All of these are excellent brands where you won’t go wrong.
