What is the most fun bassline you play?

Two of the most recent covers I’ve done are definitely the most fun - Colors by Black Pumas and Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac. So fun!

I’ve seen BÖC live many times. Joe Bouchard was my favorite of their bassists.

They are awesome live!

Yeah he’s the only one I have seen live.

Changes constantly. But at the moment I can’t wait to hit Bob Marley Sun is Shining, and John Holts Police in Helicopter. 2 really simple eight note grooves you can hang around on all day long. Follow that with a bit of Amy Winehouse Me and Mr Jones and I get Cheshire Cat syndrome. :smile_cat:

Playing reggae makes me smile.

“Stir It Up” and “Three Little Birds” are just fun, happy jams.

Completely agree and I’m not a huge reggae guy. Similarly, The Clash is a lot of fun and more my speed.

Not a reggae fan at all but I do like first wave ska and two-tone which is basically punk reggae.

I need to learn that one… it looks and sounds like a really fun one!

I am a huge fan of old roots reggae and early ska. Also love the Clash.
Speaking of reggae, the Austin Reggae festival is coming up in April!
Maybe I will see some of you there!

I find the main London Calling bass riff really fun to play, so bouncy.

Guns of Brixton is my jam.

To just sit and jam, I like The Clash, Dropkick Murphys, Social Distortion and Rancid. In old school punk, the bassist had all the fun!

I have a new most-fun bass line:

“Big Neon Glitter” by The Cult

The song is just fun. The bass line is fundamentally a really simple Dm 1 - 3 - 7 progression (although you can go to 4 instead of 7) with lots of room to play and personalize it.

“Tell Me More and More and Then Some” by Nina Simone

This has been stuck in my head and is just a ton of fun to play. So laid back and full of emotion. Simple progression, but actually mixes it up a surprising amount and leaves a lot of room for personal interpretation.

Great track for playing with just how far behind the beat you can play.

Ones I’ve been having fun with lately are No Roots by Alice Merton, Maneater by Hall and Oates, and I Keep Forgetting by. Michael McDonald.

Oh and I’ve been working on Good Times by Chic. I’ve watched numerous videos on it. A few weeks ago my teacher told me it’s just the Dorian scale, and it’s a lot easier to learn once you know that. I don’t think I’ve heard that mentioned elsewhere, and judging by how the tabs I’ve seen finger it, I don’t think the people who transcribed them even realized. :joy:

Trying add at least one version of Running up that hill, I have seen 3 different ones. Ozzy - Shot in the Dark, it is tuned a half step down. Not a big country fan but I saw this song performed on the voice and liked it so I am working on Red Dirt Road by Brooks and Dunn.
