The Placebo version is my favorite of that song.
War Pigs I think, certainly one of the most fun as a group, you can improvise a bit over the solo and Luke’s Wall.
The Trooper is one we are doing which is a challenge and comes together well.
N.I.B. !
And Thorazine Shuffle by Gov’t Mule
Is it wrong that I got a wah pedal just for NIB?
Absolutely not!
Plus add some fuzz and you can jam on For Whom The Bell Tolls. ![]()
So good. Miss Allen Woody, I do.
Black Puma’s “Colors”. The first song I really learned and still my favorite. It’s pretty, but also funky and a little bluesy.
Ever since finishing B2B, I haven’t been able to stop playing “Hey” by the Pixies, that bassline is just too dang fun! Those ghost notes + the walkups/walkdowns just give it this irresistable groove that I love playing.
I had to look that one up. Sometimes those chugging bass lines feel so good to play. That’s a good one!
There just something I like about Low Rider. Maybe because the bass is so prominent in the song.
Kim Deal has some great bass lines.
5:15 by the who, is the most fun for me.
I would have a hard time picking only one song. So here are the ones I’m enjoying playing right now.
I like these and I’m practicing them, but i can’t play them in the normal speed yet: Nirvana - Come as You Are, The Police - Message in a Bottle, The Cure - Lovesong.
And these I can play and I find very relaxing to play them before going to sleep: Coldplay - Yellow, The Cure - Faith, Chris Isaak - Wicked Game.
This whole album was played on nothing but basses. Robert played a bass vi (I think this is where he picked up his first one) instead of a regular guitar on this album. If you get the itch, you could try picking one up and playing his parts too. Simon’s bass line to this one is super simple, Robert’s isn’t a lot harder. Eventually I’ll record covers for all the songs on Faith. I’ve got 2 down so far, Funeral Party and All Cats are Grey (highly suggest this one if you want to work on chugging).
This and “Sweet Jane” are my total mellow vibes.
I’ve been really digging playing Take Me to the River by Talking Heads lately (when I’ve been able to play).
One that’s pretty fun that I just started working on the other day is Pump It Up by Elvis Costello.
Yeah, I love Tina Weymouth’s bass work with Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club.
It didn’t start out that way when I picked up bass, but Tina’s become my favorite bassist. I love her bass lines. Most of them have a sort of playfulness going on and the groove is strong with her. Especially some of her stuff with Tom Tom Club
It’s a great album!
I like All Cats are Grey, but I don’t think I would enjoy playing it. It’s only chugging and the song is long. My hand would hurt. I find more enjoyable to play songs that have more variation. Message in a Bottle by The Police is a good example, though a completely different genre.
Funeral Party is more fun to play (though it feels weird to use the word fun when talking about this song). I like the bassline. Many songs from Faith and Pornography have very sad, melancholic lyrics, but beautiful basslines.
The Cure is my favourite band, and I’ve listened to them since I was a teenager. I love their music, and Robert’s amazing vocals.
I’ve been practicing Lullaby. It’s challenging because 16th notes are still difficult for a beginner like me, but in this song has short bursts of 2 or 4 16th notes, so it is a good way to practice them.
