Hi all I’ve just got my first bass a very cheap one , I have no musical talent never picked up an instrument in my life can you please tell me what order I should practice learning my bass .
All the best grandad .
Welllll, you found yourself here, so I imagine you’ve seen some of Josh’s videos?
Some stuff to help you get started there, but the you should (of course) take the Beginner to Badass course, in which you can totally work at your own pace. I’m immersed it in at the moment myself…
Welcome and enjoy the journey!
Yeah I strongly recommend the course, it’s awesome
That’s for the information I will get signed up
Sign up, great course and absolutely nothing to lose. Welcome in!
Yeah Josh will get you going in no time!
As I’ve never played an instrument before is the course easy to follow
Yes it’s is really designed with a complete musical beginner in mind.
Brilliant I’m sold
Ditto, money well spent on the Beginner to Badass (B2B) course. I went through it probably a couple of years ago, but drifted away from bass and was mostly playing guitar until about a week ago when I’ve gone back to the course. I’m only a short way through since the update, but have definitely noticed it’s even better now.
I just wish there was a guitar equivalent, I’ve found some ok stuff, but nothing quite like B2B. Most courses are subscription based which give me the sh#ts a lot of the time as you may not have anything to fall back on unless your subscription is active. I like the buy and keep forever that B2B provides.
Absolutely. I never played an instrument until the bass and find the course very beginner friendly.
I couldn’t play an instrument either but had watched a couple of Josh’s videos and loved his style so sighed up. You won’t regret it. Other YouTube instructors (Scott’s bass lessons and talking bass) have even praised Josh for how beginner friendly this course is. Good luck.
Welcome, as others have said Josh’s B2B course is fantastic. While I have played guitar for years I have never played the bass. I started Josh’s course and was amazed how easily it was to transition to bass. This course is exactly what you need. You also have access to the forums here which is full of people willing to help each other advance to Badass bass player. Practice, go at your own pace and most of all have “FUN”!
I’m assuming you have an electric Bass with amplifier/speaker. First step, relax you’re here to have fun. Second step, The Bassbuzz Beginner to Badass is a great start. You need to learn to read tabs, begin to read music and develop dexterity with the instrument. This last step can only be accomplished by playing the Bass. Anything playing is positive. Eventually, you will need some exercises to increase the number of frets you and reach at one time without moving your hand, but you will develop your own idea of your needs in time. to start. do the lessons, do them over and over, then try some full songs. Don’t let anyone tell you that “You’re too Old” I’m 76 and this is my thried instrument Mave fun
First lesson, you learn the notes on the E string.
Second lesson you learn the notes on the A string.
Don’t worry about the third lesson, you will have a gig
I’m a noob on the bass too, which is why I enrolled in the B2B course. I’ve finished the first two modules and the progression on what you are learning is really good.
Thank you all for the brilliant advice, I have enrolled into the b2b course and I’m half way through the second module. I have made a lot of progress in such a small amount of time, I honestly thought being 57 and never played an instrument before it would be impossible too get anywhere HOW WRONG I WAS, I know I’ve only been playing for a short time but honestly it’s the best decision I’ve made in a long time .
That’s so, so cool you’re having a great time (you too @steelphoenyx). Keep at it, at your own pace, and even if (cough cough: I mean when) you start to encounter some challenges, know that you WILL overcome them. That’s part of the fun. And something we all went through/are going through.
