Forced cosmetic surgery, casting couch, trafficking, spycams, etc etc. It’s bad there. Sounds as bad or worse for the guys too (like Johnny’s was in Japan). You can find the article on internet archive sites if it is paywalled for you.
Not to mention the KBS (Korean Beauty Standard). Singers are scored against it and performers that rate low aren’t recruited. Take Soyeon, leader of i-dle. She is rated at about 50% on the KBS and is considered ugly. She failed 30 auditions on her looks
Songs she wrote, produced for i-dle or other artists have like 8 billion streams on Spotify now. And she gets hate mail for being ugly.

I love Mindhunter! I watched it 3 times. Awesome acting. Cameron Britton was perfect as Ed Kemper. He managed to make Kemper likable. I ended up reading books by FBI. Profiler John E. Douglas, and also reading about Ed Kemper.
Jonathan Groff was great as Holden Ford.
I ended up watching Unabomber too. Also other true crime series.
True Detective is also a masterpiece series.
I agree on all these reviews.
Especially the first season - gonna rewatch, thanks!
The last season was ok, even though I liked Jodie Foster, the cinematography and the general “icy conditions” (think: Carpenter’s “The Thing”). But it didn’t grip me, like the first season did…
Holt McCallany as Bill Tench was much better, in my opinion. And don’t forget Anna Torv as Wendy Carr or Hannah Gross as Debbie Mitford. Very cool female characters…
But everybody was great … well, I was disappointed with Damon Herriman as Charles Manson.
In my opinion Jeremy Davies is a perfect match for that role (“Helter Skelter”, 2004), who also played great in the underrated “Solaris” from 2002.
What’s the word on “Ballard”??? Seems to be set in the Bosch universe…
I love the original Dexter series, and I watched it 3 times. I haven’t seen the others. I only found out about the others now while reading this thread.
BORING!
At least it’s without anybody playing Jazz
- “Dexter: Original Sin” was boring
- “Dexter: New Blood” was ok … but maybe cause I longed for more Dexter?
- “Dexter: Resurrection”: I just started it, but had trouble focussing on the first episode, which is a bad sign. Maybe they are milking a dead cow? Let’s wait & see…
Ballard is definitely in the Bosch universe. It derives from a series of novels by Michael Connelly, author of Bosch novels.
The series starts slowly but builds as procedurals do. I liked it. Also, Harry Bosch and other Bosch regulars make key appearances.
I do miss the great classic jazz in Bosch, though. The sing choices were always thoughtfully chosen and powerful, as were all the other myriad production values and acting.
Incidentally, Dexter: Resurrection is damn good. Uma Thurman and Peter Dinklage join the cast this season, which speaks volumes. I just wish the episodes weren’t meted out weekly. If not, I’d have binged the whole thing by now.
Yep, a bit slow indeed at the start…
And no jazz, no Coltrane, no nightly views of downtown LA from the porch, and no Crate&Barrel!?!?
They were all great and excellent choices for their roles. I also love the choice of music (Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer).
Anna Torv was also great in the series Fringe. I watched it a couple of times. I often rewatch series I enjoy. Some two or more times, some every year. I watch The IT Crowd twice a year , also Coupling (the UK version) once or twice a year, Frasier and The Big Bang Theory also once a year.
I haven’t seen Helter Skelter. I was trying to remember which series about Charles Manson I once watched, but it wasn’t this one, it was Aquarius.
Crate and Barrel do indeed appear later on, as do J Edgar and Moe.
The show is written and produced by the same folks as Bosch, and Titus Welliver is integral to its production.
I tried Frasier, but it did nothing to me.
Aquarius was great in painting the picture of that time. But I can’t remember aything else from that. That was with David Duchovny, right? I miss Scully
(By the way: if you want to watch something nice with Gillian Anderson, watch “Sex Education”. Anderson is getting better and better, the older she becomes).
Hah, cool!!
I recently watched the second season of The Last of Us, and liked it very much. Can’t wait for the 3rd season.
I’m now watching The Strain. I like how it is so unlike other vampire series.
I enjoy sci-fi, some horror series, mysterious or spooky series or movies, crime series, and comedy. I’m rewatching with my husband How I Met Your Mother. He likes comedy best, the horror or mystery series I watch alone.
I enjoyed Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Dark (this I watched twice, though it’s a long series). Stranger Things was also good, but I didn’t watch the last season. The first season was so good.
I like the horror series From. I find it quite original. Mist was also very good.
I liked Outlander, but didn’t watch the last season to the end.
I enjoyed the comedy series Ghosts, both the UK and USA versions, specially because they aren’t simply a copy of each other, and the stories are quite different. Both are a lot of fun.
Yes, it was with David Duchovny. I miss Scully too. I used to love The X Files. Recently I started watching it again from the beginning, but now it doesn’t feel as appealing as it did when the series came out in 1993. So I jump a lot of episodes. I like the most the alien themed episodes. Probably now I would enjoy more the movies than the series.
Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll look it up. The most recent series I watched with Gillian Anderson was The Crown.
Loved both of these movies:
The Accountant 2
The Amateur
Series:
Too Loud - love this
Ballard was good, my wife and I just finished it. I’m digging the Staccato that she carries! Kind of modern old school!
