Whatcha Watchin'? The TV Thread

Fun fact number two: he uses the pseudonym “joe hill” because his real name is joe king (say it quickly if you need to)

Great actors with phantastic chemistry between them. Really excellent cinematography & colour grading. A quirky, weird and heartfelt series!

Also: Scottish is not my favourite dialect anymore. It’s Irish now!

Just watching the final episode now. Absolutely hilarious.

I have the habit of watching the first few minutes, and if it doesn’t grip me immediately: skip through an episode / film, to quickly to decide if it’s worth it.
There’s so/too much content available, and I don’t want to waste my time with bad stuff.

Sometimes this process fails, obviously … it’s not the first time…

How To Get To Heaven From Belfast!!

Dark funny great!

I just watched the first season of Alien: Earth. It was a lot better than I expected. It was very, very interesting. It is hard to comment on it without spoilers, so I’ll just say that, if you like Alien, you will probably enjoy this series.

I enjoyed all the Alien movies. Prometheus, Covenant and Romulus were excellent.

I liked it a lot. The way the final episode ended was magnificent. I can’t wait for Season 2 (reportedly renewed!).

I just watched “I hate Suzy” with an absolutely great Billie Piper.

I liked her before (just watch her in the very underrated “Penny Dreadful”), but here she gives EVERYTHING!
She created this series with her friend Lucy Prebble, based on their own experiences (WTF!?).

I discovered this series cause of Daniel Ings, who was great character in “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” … the only spin-off of “Game of Throne” which I actually liked a lot (also, it’s not very “Game of Throne”).

So, watch “I hate Suzy”, “Penny Dreadful” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”

A Knight was very good, but too short. Each episode’s new content was about 30 minutes. I blew through the whole series in one evening.

I can’t find I Hate Suzy on any of my many streaming services (France), but Penny Dreadful is on Prime Video here. Added to my watch list.

I think there is more Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms coming. I sure hope the seasons are longer!

Here’s a great Rush documentary of the R40 tour from the German ARTE channel (in English with German subtitles). Available until the end of October, 2026. I checked the ARTE streaming channel and it’s not available there. This may be available elsewhere, but it’s the first time it showed up in my feed.

I’m watching “The Dinosaurs” and get pretty p#ssed off. Again!

It’s always nice to hear Morgan Freeman, but a) the animations are soso and b) they show behaviour of dinosaurs that is likely more of a fantasy.

How can they read complex (social) behaviour from just a pile of bones?
Yes, I know: interpolation from existing animal behaviour that we know.
But I see behaviour that no animal I know shows (ie the shark hunting dinosaur at the end of episode 3).
BBC started to do the same thing now (“Walking with Dinosaurs”), unfortunately. But at least they explain why they think that behaviour could be like that, hypothetically.

Netflix pretends it was like that, like it’s a fact. Poor Morgan sounds like he is reluctant about the nonsense he has to read & speak. I imagine Spielberg standing behind him, pushing him: “Speak slower, deeper, more dramatic!”, so that nobody notices what rubbish it is.
But hey, it’s Netflix. Scientific content becomes an overlong Tiktok. At least the dinosaurs are not dancing (yet)…

One more documentary like that and I’ll become a creationist. Problem solved

Just watched “The Beauty”

It’s thematically very close to the much much much better (but less funny) “The Substance”

The Beauty is not the best series ever, but it has it’s moments of genius and fun, so I enjoyed it on a popcorn level. It steals from so many movies and series, I can’t count.
My grandfather always said: “it’s better to steal something good than to invent something bad”, and he’s right.
My girlfriend proposed a drinking game: every time you recognize something from another movie/series you drink a shot. She’s the only one drinking alcohol in this household, so it’s likely a cheap trick to get very drunk during the week….

Notably, Evan Peters is absolutely great in this series, and it’s nice to see Rebecca Hall again (though I prefer her in British romcoms).

Ashton Kutcher also plays in it, maybe cause his mother already did “The Substance”?
Not a fan of him, since he tried to scam the EU, but he was great in “Dude, Where’s My Car?”, so all is forgiven.
As somebody beautiful he is semi-believable and it shows that he is a soso actor, with some sparks of potential. Also he looks like the taller twin of a younger Tom Cruise sometimes. Not a compliment!

Very interesting to see Isabella Rossellini in this series too. She plays this role on auto pilot, and doing that she’s still 1000x more charismatic than Kutcher. But my toaster is also more charismatic than him too.

Anyway, that reminds me that I should rewatch “Blue Velvet” or “Wild at Heart” … cause of Rossellini, not Kutcher

I finished The Beauty up last week, Great show in keeping with the American Horror series. Evan Peters certainly found his niche. They left a great cliff hanger!
