Whatcha Watchin'? The TV Thread

It’s excellent! Wait to you get to the season-ending cliffhanger. I hope they don’t take forever releasing Season 2.

Broke down and got Hulu to watch The Bear. I worked my whole life in kitchens, as a main job early on and as a second job as I got older, like 4 days a week. I’ve been getting a lot of The Bear clips on YouTube lately and it has me interested.

I figure I’ll keep it for a month and try to get through the whole series, then cancel. I have enough streaming options. I miss the days when Netflix was the place to go for everything. If I finish it faster than that, I think Hulu has Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I’m always down to watch that again.

Actually, does anyone else remember when Hulu first started, and their big “killer feature” was that you could embed any video from Hulu on any webpage? So like every other blog or personal site had TV shows on it for a minute before they realized what a bad idea that was for profit. There was even a knockoff Hulu called Hooloo where some guy was just embedding all of it lol.

Don’t worry, Netflix is buying all the streaming platforms, so those days are coming back sooner than we’d like.

This is my favorite Fiat ad of all time.

On Youtube, I watch weekly updated police chase videos from Arkansas, Georgia, and Florida State Highway Patrol. I also watch non-profit sonar search teams who search lakes, rivers, and ponds for missing vehicles connected to missing persons cold cases.

…very informative.

I just watched the new Amadeus series with the always great Will Sharpe and the absolutely astonishing Paul Bettany. He really shows what a great actor he actually is, and I hope he will be seen in much more stuff from now on.

So, I’m not a Mozart fan … and all movies/series I saw about this topic were sh#t, so I did not want to watch it initially.
But it’s really great, on many levels … and I even got to appreciate Mozart. It’s not all musical masturbation, like most classical music.

Also, I watched “It: Welcome to Derry”. I did not expect much. The new movies were not great, and I found Bill Skarsgård not as great as Tim Curry. In fact I was disappointed.

But this series has found it’s own tone, maybe due to the lack of pressure to be compared to the original series.
The story was cool (but not 100% perfect), the actors did a very good job … and even Bill Skarsgård felt not out of place, but right at home.
It’s like all pieces finally came together…

Highly recommended!

I enjoyed The Residence a lot! It was just so awesome! It was so good, that I will eventually watch it again. It was so much better than I expected.

I just finished watching the last season of Stranger Things, and it was great.

My favourite seasons were the 1st and 2nd, and after the 3rd I had decided to stop watching it, but decided to give it a chance, and it did not disappoint. It feels the story changes a lot from season to season. I will probably re-watch the 1st season again, because it was so great.

Are there fans of the German series DARK here? I watched it twice (or maybe thrice). It was so awesome. I often feel like starting to watch it again from the beginning, but it would be a commitment of my time. I hope Netflix will keep it, because I would probably like to watch it again. I’m one of those persons who love to re-watch movies and series, and read again books I like.

Now I started watching The Chair Company. It is so weird! I dislike the protagonist, but the series is a good blend of mystery, ridiculousness, and comedy.

I watched a bit of The Dark years ago. I liked what I saw but bigger series won my attention.

The Chair Company is deeply weird but lots of fun. It is the brainchild of Tim Robinson, a notable auteur of cringe comedy. And, yes, his character is supremely unlikable and ridiculous, hence, cringe. :joy:

DARK is very mysterious and mind bending. But it starts to make sense when you have watched at least the whole first season, or better yet two seasons. At that point, it is difficult to stop. It gets better and better.

The director Baran bo Odar is very good. I watched another of his series, called 1899, which was also awesome.

I just started to watch it again. It’s pretty good (and triggers a lot of nostalgia for me, as I was young(-ish) in Germany in 1986 and sort-of parent material in 2019, and recognize the “atmosphere”, the small town vibes, the school yard stuff and so on…).
I was a bit worried about the third season, but they managed to wrap it up nicely.

This was very cool as well - I was so pissed that Netflix didn’t renew this one after the first season. It was just about to get really, really weird/interesting.

By the way, credit where credit is due: Baran always works with Jantje Friese and her input/contribution should not be overlooked :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Zwei Hände hoch! I liked DARK, but I just loved KLEO. I’ve watched it twice and need to fit in a third time.

The Return Of Godzilla [1985]
Japanese original version…

(not that campy, cheesey, Dr. Pepper-sponsored U.S. crap comedy version re-badged as ‘GODZILLA 1985’)

I’ve watched Dark twice now also. I too am not happy that they did not renew 1899!

Leaving Netflix soon alert!

If you haven’t yet watched “Strays”, I suggest doing so soon. It’s scheduled to leave Netflix on 17 Jan (at least in France). I generally don’t watch comedies because many of them are more stupid than funny. But Strays (yes, it’s a dog movie) is excellent. It is absolutely NSFW nor for children. And make sure to hang around through the ending credits. There’s a short clip they added that is priceless. I loved this movie and will definitely purchase it for future views. And, yes, there’s a scene with dogs on psilocybin.

Did the same just now and I was … disappointed.

Many things happened, but did not help the narrative. And there was quite a lot of shooting and stuff, and not enough story. We went from a friendship story to a war story.
More guns is never “more” better - just like in real life…

But what was very noticeable: the lack of chemistry between Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour, which was so great in the first seasons. I read some articles about harassment and bullying going on, but then I read some articles that this was totally untrue.
Anyway, there was rarely father/daughter warmth between them in this season, which is a shame!

Not on TV yet, but we just went to the movies to see 28 years later “Bone Temple” that movie just easily slid into number one for me!

I watched the movie Abigail on Netflix some days ago. It is a horror movie. I don’t want to say much not to spoil it. But I can say it was better than I expected. The girl (Alisha Weir) was so damn awesome. Very good in her role. Very Creepy too.

Right now I’m watching the series NOS4A2 on Netflix. It’s perfect for binge-watching if you have fever and no energy to do anything useful. Seems entertaining so far.

Bit of trivia, it is based on the book by Joe Hill, who has a famous dad, Stephen King

Looks like his dad
