It all depends on the use case!
I think I mentioned that my ears get worse, so I wanted to have the best possible quality for under 2000€, with these requirements:
- Highend audiophile sound (yes, I used the word “audiophile”

- best in class for bluetooth (using APTX or LDAC for best connect BT quality)
- usable ANC. It does not need to go to Bose level ANC, but it should reduce most noise in the street, in the subway and on planes significantly.
- Great as a “normal” headphone, using cables. Analog would suffice, but a built-in DAC for USB would be even better.
As this was a very serious topic for me (listening to great quality music for as long as my declining hearing allows for it), I did not care about brand, image or anything else.
It would not be part of any collection, it should be simply the best. So I tested every BT headphone available at the time.
The dongle option is no solution, as all ANC headphones I know have no BT.
Again, I took this really seriously, as it really depresses me that I wont be hearing music the way I did and do now in a few years.
So, this was an actual non-vanity selection procedure: get the best! No compromises…
The MG was not available at the time, otherwise I would have purchased that for sure.
Sure, it’s pricey, but I haven’t regretted it EVER. It’s always a pleasure to listen to it, and a few friends (and strangers) have purchased it too, after listening to it.
That said: I really enjoy the open & cheap Fiio JT7 at home. Very spacious, very detailed.
But: it’s open, so ANC is not an option. I could connect it to a bluetooth dongle, but I am not using open headphones outside, cause of dust.
So, it might be a great headphone, but it just does not match my criteria.
For anybody who hast the same requirements, the Focal Bathys are still the way to go…
