Which headphones do you have and ACTUALLY use?

That’s awesome. FiiO K11 regular or the R2R. I have both and the K13 R2R the sound is pretty much identical which is a good thing.

Congrats on the DayBreak, you’ll love it. It’s probably the cheapest Tribrid set you can get and if you AutoEQ then it would cover most of the “Meta” sets. When I ordered other set and wait I’d AutoEQ the DayBreak and see how it’d match and 90% it gets to 90% because they are using the same drivers. Can’t really do that with “Branded” drivers as some are custom tuned.

Okay, silly question time. These look cool. But, what are you using IEM’s for? I have on-the-ear Sony’s for bass practice, and bluetooth for when I run with my iPhone. How do you use IEM? Bass practice, Music, other? Thanks.

Thanks! I got the regular version. The Daybreak arrive sunday or monday, I got them because i figured they’d fill a spot between the hexa and the timeless

I’m listening on my 560S right now, I listened to Led Zepplin IV and i can hear a lot of problems with the original recordings so that’s… good i guess  Now I’m listening to Daft Punk - RAM. I got to one song and i thought “man this sounds amazing!” I looked and it was Giorgio by Moroder which was a song that Gemini had suggested.

That’s a good question. I have a few custom IEMs for my gigs but nowadays I just use the universal IEMs for most my gigs.

The rest of the IEMs are for music listening. Each brand seem to have their house tuning and each model is different from one another. Some are pretty awesome but some are just fun but not accurate, but fun.

Audiophile hobby is pretty much about manipulating frequencies to reference standard or add color to shape the style.

Yeah it’d fall smack in the middle. It’s warmer and has better bass definition than the Hexa and much smoother treble and cleaner mid than Timeless I&2. You’ll like it.

When you get your DayBreak go to Squiglink and AutoEQ the Reference, I think SuperReview has the graph. It’s pretty flat.

Here’s what’s going to blow your mind, the CrinEar Cypher. All metal shell Greenish matte shade, slightly warmer than DayBreak for $99. I spent 20 minutes on it at CanJam. I couldn’t believe how good it sound. I actually talked to Crin for a bit, that boy is tall man, on the video he looks like he’s 5’6” in reality he’s like 6’2”

now that i’ve actually thrown in my hat into the world of bedroom producing with ableton, i went and got what is for me the nicest pair of headphones i’ve ever owned, the beyerdynamics 770 pro X. and although they aren’t state of the art cans they are very very impressive as far as i am concerned. the free companion calibration app is nice too. they really do make mixing a lot easier, especially sitting in my dining room with 2 cats going bananas and my wife in the kitchen listening to the same drum looped four thousand times in a row.

They are very good. They would be a top choice for me for closed back; I love my 990 Pros.

Yeah! Those are great!
I got the very cheap knockoff version: Superlux HD-660 Pro, for 36€.

In the old days I would have NEVER gotten one of those!!!
So, I could listen to both the Beyerdynamics & the Superlux (hate the name).
The Beyerdynamics are better in every respect, but the difference is not as significant as I thought. Anyway, the Superlux are for recording in the park, so they get thrown in the mud, abused by park punks and stuff like that. I wouldn’t dare to use those Beyerdynamics for that.

This is what does not work with my Superlux, cause you need to have a Beyerdynamics serial# for it to work.

I have trouble being so small with in ear anything , the foam piece keeps pushing out of the ear canal so, I use both Waza air and Waza air bass.

900 X is better for mixing/mastering  and it also helps if you have some hearing loss to tolerate that signature Beyerynamic treble

You can tame it

The hearing loss, not so much

I was looking at the Focal Bathys MG at various websites, and they are all listing around 1499 USD Except Crutchfield. They have them for 1149 USD with scratch and dent for 9 and some change.

I don’t know if I’d drop $1500 on a BT headphone though.

It would not have the Tech of Apple and the sound quality of wired. What are you using right now, and what are you using this for? any preference?

The MG is the even better model. But I have the non-MG version, which should be half the price.

People said the same thing about the Apple over ears when they came out.

The Focal Bathys are excellent for BT, but work even better connected with analog or USB, using the built-in DAC.

Connected with cable it sounds like a higher end “normal” headphone.
Connected via BT it is simply the best BT headphone you can get.

Yesterday, I went into the park, listening to my own tracks (the ones I produced myself) and met the stoner musician group that sits around there every afternoon (smoking dope and talking nonsense).

I made it a habit of letting them listen to my new tracks, so they can give me advise how to improve them.

Two of them were like: “Wow, what headphones are that?”.
Of course, the THC technology might have helped, but they all had there headphones with them (in various qualities), and mine stood out … by far!

Yeah I hear you man.

I’d rather get the wired and either use the Player or bluetooth Dongle to get better sound. Or get similar sound for much much cheaper on a BT headphones. I heard the Utopia ($6000) at CanJam and I can match the quality and the sounds with another “HighEnd” Can. My 800s is not exactly cheap but if I can go back I’d buy other Cans for sure. I still think that my FiiO FT7 is still the best package (headphones) in my stable. I’m still prefer IEMs though.

Hey, I got the Limited Edition CrinEar Project Monolith. Fabulous.

It all depends on the use case!

I think I mentioned that my ears get worse, so I wanted to have the best possible quality for under 2000€, with these requirements:

  • Highend audiophile sound (yes, I used the word “audiophile”
  • best in class for bluetooth (using APTX or LDAC for best connect BT quality)
  • usable ANC. It does not need to go to Bose level ANC, but it should reduce most noise in the street, in the subway and on planes significantly.
  • Great as a “normal” headphone, using cables. Analog would suffice, but a built-in DAC for USB would be even better.

As this was a very serious topic for me (listening to great quality music for as long as my declining hearing allows for it), I did not care about brand, image or anything else.

It would not be part of any collection, it should be simply the best. So I tested every BT headphone available at the time.
The dongle option is no solution, as all ANC headphones I know have no BT.

Again, I took this really seriously, as it really depresses me that I wont be hearing music the way I did and do now in a few years.

So, this was an actual non-vanity selection procedure: get the best! No compromises…

The MG was not available at the time, otherwise I would have purchased that for sure.

Sure, it’s pricey, but I haven’t regretted it EVER. It’s always a pleasure to listen to it, and a few friends (and strangers) have purchased it too, after listening to it.

That said: I really enjoy the open & cheap Fiio JT7 at home. Very spacious, very detailed.
But: it’s open, so ANC is not an option. I could connect it to a bluetooth dongle, but I am not using open headphones outside, cause of dust.
So, it might be a great headphone, but it just does not match my criteria.

For anybody who hast the same requirements, the Focal Bathys are still the way to go…

I’m using Sony Walkman Headphones with the orange spongy ear pieces! I have a pair of the Bose 700 series BT noise cancelling headphones. They also have the mini connection cable. I listen to metal, death metal, 70’s and 80’s rock and often audio books. The audio books I listen to are from Graphic Audio, they have sound effects and different voice actors for every character.
