If I buy over ears, it will be a monitoring headphones.
But first I need to find a replacement for my wonderful Bose Ultra Earbuds…
About the FiiOs: The JT3 seems to be more HIFI-oriented, while the JT7 is more neutral, which should be good for monitoring.
While both have a slightly V-shaped sound signature, the JT3 has more bass and warmth, whereas the JT7 offers more balanced bass and treble and is generally more neutral-sounding.
The JT7 has a wider soundstage, but its shape is less spherical than JT3’s smaller, more rounded stage. Although the JT7’s imaging is more defined, its images appear to come from the sides, whereas JT3’s images are projected towards the front.
Even though the JT7 has less bass, I feel it sounds more dynamic compared to the JT3, as the faster transients with the JT7 are more apparent to my hearing.
But overall, they are not far apart in terms of dynamics, and both are equally musically engaging.
Here’s the list of test I’ve done for you in the last half and hour. It’s the first time I tried the Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headphones. it’s so cool.
FiiO JT7. Man it takes longer than I thought it would. The mic is quite sensitive and there’s some shirt brushing noise at the beginning. In the way it’s kinda cool as we know it works
I made the recording for JT1 and HD6xx for comparison I’ll post that later.
You put the Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headphones in your ears and than put the JZ7 over that and record?
Is your source a Youtube video or are you using a proper lossless hires track?
If it’s a YouTube - can I send you a list with my hires FLACS, so you might choose one of those for your videos? I have about 6500 Hires songs in my library, so there should be at least one that you like (and is suitable for a testing).
For testing headphones I would NEVER use a YouTube video…
For my money it’d still be the JT7. It’s pretty dang close to the FT7. Bass done really well great lush in the mid and well control treble.
If you want details over everything else then you can still get the FT3 350 ohm version I hope, it’s hard-ish to drive but that mid is quite prominent such a great can for classical, soundtracks and jazz.
Hahaha … I would be eating at your restaurant EVERY day
That’s really hard to drive.
If I get an open version, I would only use it on my sofa (thats inside, cause of dust outside) with my Presonus Quantum ES2. If I would get a closed version, I would use it on both my ES2 and my Zoom AMS-24 (the Zooom is for park playing, outside).
I think I need a “lower ohmed” headphone, like the JT7, cause both the ES2 and the AMS-24 cannot comfortably drive high ohm headphones, I guess.
If I buy the JT7 I’m thinking of getting an additional cheap & durable closed headphone for playing in the park next summer.
Yeah - my d@mn friends also wish that I were in LA, not here in Germany
I use an cheap IEM for noodling in the park. That’s OK.
I just need a closed over ear for seriously playing & recording properly in the park - so no outside noise and an “honest” tone … so boring might be ok!
Ah - for your influencer “I dance IEMs” TikTok channel I found this:

This guy uses the Dayton IMM-6. I have the same one, and it’s great for little things like measuring IEMs. There is a newer version with USB-c … which I would get if I were you.
Of course, measuring should be done with REW. This totally unfunny German guy does that:
So, combine the Dayton IMM-6 / tube construction of video 1 with the REW approach of video 2 … and you’re set!
