Whistling/Tea Pot Kettle sound from amp

I’ve got a rumble 25 just to practice in my bedroom, and recently I’ve found that when I play certain notes on the bass, I’ll hear a faint whistling/tea pot kettle sound coming from the amp. It only happens on certain notes and the nose goes away when I stop playing the note. The noise doesn’t increase in volume when I turn up the volume knob on the amp either. Any idea what might be causing this? I bought the amp only a month ago so hopefully it isn’t broken.

Are you sure that the noise is coming from the amp and not something in the room that is vibrating at certain frequencies? I’ve been bitten by that one before.

Wow, I don’t know how I didn’t think about that. Yeah, the noise still happens even when the amp is off and unplugged so it’s something in my room. Physics is weird lol. Thanks

Indeed it is. If you hold two tuning forks of the same note, one in each hand, and strike one, the other will begin to vibrate as you bring them closer together. The same thing can happen and I’m betting that’s what it is. Something in your practice room is sensitive to that particular note frequency.

Is it a tea pot kettle, maybe?

We have a light fixture in our living room that rattles something awful when I hit some lower notes. But it’s overhead and was easy to diagnose. I also get to play in my office sometimes, and the A/C vent rattles. It’s difficult to escape that, honestly.
