Time to take a few days off.

Looks like the normal hand of a working man to me, I’ve been a mechanic for 46 years. Like stated take a few off and rest it👍. I was gonna ask if that was your fretting hand (southpaw) but then I saw your basses, very nice btw.

Totally get that for sure, some days I can’t even think about playing. I’m Having hand surgery on both sometimes next year. I’ve put it off for years but now my right hand stays asleep 80% of the time, very hard to work much less play. Hopefully a day or so off for you does the trick.

Well, I believe there’s two things happening here, based on my own experience.

  1. That’s a site of a previous injury. Mine was over forty years ago.

  2. You have a food allergy, or maybe a few, that you don’t know about. Mine are wheat and nightshades.

Either way, you might want to try putting DMSO on it. Completely resolved the arthritis I was getting in my index finger knuckle.

Unless you have a gig tomorrow, just give it a rest and let your finger recover. If you have gigs line up for the rest of the weekend, you should have started a week or 2 ago as you need to blister, then blood blister after that you’ll have a workable calloused, either way you are screwed now, just give the poor finger a rest.

When you come back, I suggest that the first thing you do is to find out how little fretting pressure requires to produce a sustained note, and try to maintain that pressure. You’ll be surprised how little it requires. Scale from one to ten, it looks like you are at level 8, you probably only need 3. :joy:

I don’t recall a previous injury so not sure

And I’m not allergic but thanks for the advice

Oh my! You definitely have to take it easy then. Are you hooking the string?

I get that people want to help and everybody has their recommendations.

Don’t put any medication or chemicals on it without consulting a doctor or pharmacist. DMSO in particular is not recommended for use as medication.

I try let things heal naturally

It’s an amazing substance but needs a lot of care in use, because it is a strong solvent and will dissolve and carry any impurities right through your skin along with it.

Been using it for years, or I wouldn’t recommend it. Interestingly, I met the daughter of the Doctor who first discovered it. They use it to transport organs for transplant too.

If you don’t feel comfortable with it, then most certainly, don’t use it.

back to normal. So going to start the lessons again
