My "One Album a Day” app gave me The Go-Go’s “Beauty and the Beat” today. Holy crap do they go WAY harder than I remember. Those bass lines are killer. So tasty. Such a delicious tone. The whole rhythm section goes HARD. They sounds like top-flight session musicians with how tight, clean, technical, and fully serving the music they are while playing with absolute gusto.

They were a punk band that took an odd turn into pop when this song hit big, so ya, they played very hard.

But not just punk hard. Like… when a session bassist gets brought in for a mindless pop tune and given the leeway to go completely HAM.

Yes, she was a founder and the singer of the Go-Gos. That’s also Jane Wiedlin on guitar; both went on to well known solo careers, though Belinda was the most famous.

Caught Slomosa tonight! Marie Moe gives me Tina Weymouth crossed with Jason Newsted vibes. Whole band is great but she really has such an excellent stage presence. And is by far the best headbanger of the bunch.

Off hand do you know what type of bass she plays? To me it looks like a vintage 5 string PRS with the 3 single pickups that maybe has a more modern neck? I’m sure she’s probably talked about it somewhere that I’m just not finding.
