I’m sorry if my contributions above came across as judgemental; I certainly didn’t mean it that way. What I was trying to say (evidently poorly) is that many of these ladies have great talent and it’s unfortunate that the environment that their work is viewed in will often reward attributes other than their talent.
Some people enjoy and thrive in such an environment; good for them, nothing wrong with that in any way! However it likely has a chilling effect on those that don’t, and that is unfortunate.

I haven’t figured it all out. And it is an inspirational topic, thank you for starting it. But if what I said came across as judgemental than I did a damn poor job of expressing myself or people are reading it wrong. Because the only thing a musician should be judged on is their music, imo. Unless they kill kittens or something.

Another fabulous bassis using a J bass. Miho gets overshadowed by others but she is really good. She and Haruna (drums) started the band and recruited the others.

Sleater-Kinney notoriously has no bass player, but Corin Tucker down-tunes her guitar and plays the “bass role” in their songs which you can hear below. Kind of a stretch in a “Women On Bass” thread but the Bikini Kill post reminded me of them and they definitely deserve a mention.
