Just sharing as i recently discovered this method for trying to learn a new bass lines. As you probably know, bass tabs are generally unreliable or non-existent and if they exist, there’s usually nothing in there as far as tempo or structure goes.
My usual plan was to learn the key, and chord progression and improvise. Most of the time, i’d end up just as incomplete as normal tabs, and being improvised, it would vary from day to day. That method hasnt changed but, i recently started writing the bass line out as i figure it out. It solved the inconsistency issue right away.
Another bonus was to be able to break the tabs down into “measures”. This way i can see if i’m missing something, or doing too much more easily. I can also add break symbols or other notes (thanks Josh) to have a better understanding should i need to explain it to another musician or i take a break and have to look at it in the future. Here is an example and a link to the song. What do you all think?
