( paging @howard ) a not very in depth but nice review/comparison of these 2 yammies - i have always been a fan:
Nice! I’ve always dug how the ceramic pups on the 234 sound - less refined and more untamed than the higher end models. Excellent bass for punk or post-punk.
The 234 is a great starter bass. That said, the 434 brings a lot more to the table for not a lot more cheddar.
Agree, having now played all 3 of the cheaper models (234 - 734), I’d say if you weren’t after the active preamp in the 734, the 434 is the better buy imo. The fit and finish of all 3 is excellent for their price ranges. That said, I love the preamp in the 734.
Only thing I would change is the colors available.
for the price i think the 234 is the better choice of the two. i started on and still have a 234, great bass but i have ones that definitely exceed it. would love to try a 434
They fixed that for the US and Europe.
That new red is beautiful in person. It’s a nice color online but pictures don’t do it justice.
That vintage white looks nice. Is that a new color?
Nope.
Doesn’t seem to be that common over here. It’s not even listed at Thomann.
It’s been a standard color for the BBP for a while; it used to be that, burst, or midnight blue.
Not sure about the 234 though.
Hmmm…
That is sharp. I’ve got a new strap coming tomorrow (for the bass VI) in that vintage white.
this is the color I got my 234 in. at the time the white and natural were the only finishes available
My first bass so far is the 234 in Rasberry and I love it! Would have loved to have jumped to the 434. Perhaps someday. I would even love to try the Peter Hook Signature model but i think I’m not worthy!

love to try the Peter Hook Signature model
I wish you the best of luck finding one.
Do it, I love mine! Changed the chrome knobs to some black ones for an even more B&W look and it’s even more awesome!
Really don’t need it, I’m fine with the seven I got
Haha, fair enough

I would even love to try the Peter Hook Signature model but i think I’m not worthy!
I would probably buy one on sight if it were not astronomical. They are impossible to find
