Yamaha TRB-6II

Asking for a friend (really), do anyone know the Yamaha TRB-6II ?

One is selling here in france for 1200€, in great shape. I believe it’s a japanese one.

This is the exact same one than this one :

What do you think ?

What I can find for US prices, that looks like a good deal. Not an amazing you’d be crazy to pass up deal but a good deal.

Solid bass, the string spacing is a little tight, but the sounds is pure gold. I don’t remember how heavy it was but I remember it’s not light. My friend has/ had a green one. That’s what inspired me to get a 6 string.

I had the slightly newer model as a 5 string (the main difference was that mine also had a piezo pickup in the bridge).
It’s a fantastic bass, immaculately made. And, yes, they were made in Japan!
There are not many on the used market (I think mostly people hang on to theirs). As a result, the prices asked can vary a bit, but 1200 USD seems reasonable.

I sold mine to a professional bass player, who was looking for a quality instruments away from his home base (he is temporarily in Denmark at the moment). So, I guess that is some kind of stamp of approval.

One thing to remark is that it is “active” only!

(Again, my experience is with a 5-string, but it’s the same model).

Yeah these are the John Patitucci signature models, very good.

@John_E also has a true unicorn, a SBV body bass with the pickups and preamp from the TRB 5 JP-II. Only 50 ever made.
