So I’ve been using an Harley Benton PB20 that I got used and now it starts to feel like its going to fall apart any moment, so I looked around and came across an Yamaha TRB1004 from 2007 for ~500€ used in very good condition and wanted to know if anybody here has any experience with it and if they can recommend it. I know there is probably something better in the price range but this bass stuck with me while looking through the local listings.
I’m not familiar with them, but judging from this example it’s a pretty darn nice bass for that price.
Yeah they are the precursor to the current TRBX line and are great.
You can still buy new ones but primarily just the John Patitucci signature model.
Actually it’s not a bad deal at all. Yamaha will usually outperform Fender etc for the same price range.
Thats good to know, thanks for the answer. I’m still a bit cautions since I never spent so much money on an instrument and don’t really know what to look for when checking it.
What would be the most important things to look at before buying it?
Mainly the condition of the neck - truss rod, frets, etc. Also that the electronics function- light scratchy noise in the knobs is no big deal but you at least want to verify sound output.
I bought this very bass back in 2006ish when Yamaha first released it. It has, quite literally, been my only bass since. I love it so much that every time I think of buying something else, I have trouble figuring out where it’d fit in.
