Hello everybody, I have a question about my Yamaha TRBX 304:
Why is it that when I play in finger or solo mode, it is much louder than in flat or pick mode? I tried adjusting the EQ on the amp, but in finger and solo mode, it is still louder than in flat or pick mode.
Thanks for the answers!
Hey there! It becomes pretty apparent when you look at what the eq profiles are:
Solo and Finger include boosts in the mids, while the others scoop them. That frequency range is important and so this is what you are hearing.
I need to spend more time with mine. I feel like I’m always on the last 2.
I also feel like just having two active eq knobs may be enough for me. I didn’t think of ever say that )and I’m sure I won’t live by that) but across a few guitars it is easy to forget what the doohickeys do.
I like the 3 eq knobs on my 734. I also really like the simplicity of a volume and tone on my P bass. TBH, I find it easier to just plug in and find a tone I like on the P than any other bass that I’ve got. Everything else takes tweaking.
I’m thinking of getting rid of the 60s vibe P that I just got. I don’t know if I’m just too into active EQ but I can’t get a sound I like out of it. Like it’s a P where the heck is the boom???
I’m probably going to pull the pickup and take a look at it. I bought it online so maybe they pulled an okiedoke and swapped in a cheap pickup.
See, with my BB 300 (40 year old reverse P bass), if I’m struggling to get a tone that I like I’m sure that one is going to just sound good. My other basses can sound better for things when I can dial them in right but that P is just going to sound awesome when I plug it in and unmute it.
Thank you! I don’t know why, but when I play with a pick in finger mode, it sounds much sexier than in pick mode. Someone once wrote that pick mode is similar to a J bass, and finger mode is similar to a P bass. Maybe I like the P bass better. However, I don’t understand why the sound is weaker in pick mode. It seems I need to spend more time studying EQ.
If I put it through my compressor and equipment it sounds better but I don’t think I’m a P fan.
