A little music related fun

As good a reason as any!

I never got into Ministry, but I agree with the latter.

In the early days of HBO, the granddaddy of TV flickdom, they ran movies from all over. It’s because of this that I discovered the Mad Max franchise. Being in the proper frame of mind contributed enormously to my enjoyment.

That said, I’ve watched all of the MM flicks over and over. They had minuscule production budgets compared to today’s norm, but the whole Indie “Let’s put on a show!” ethos shines bright on the screen.

If you watch ‘em, try to go in with a wide open mind and a mood-altering cocktail, etc. and enjoy the mayhem. The flicks are raw, rowdy and full of awesome Aussie-ness. :ok_hand:

I’m a David Lynch fan. I’ve got the openers mind there is when it comes to movies. :exploding_head:

Excellent. Then you’ll dig MM.

One last thing, the grand budget, scope and outstanding production values of the Academy Award-winning latest Mad Max flick is obviously a departure in approach from the more humble original Gibson versions. I loved it, though.

Mad Max 2 was called The Road Warrior in the USA. It was released in 1981, but in Australia, it was called Mad Max 2, since Mad Max was an Australian hit, and only underground in the USA. Had Mad Max gone mainstream in the USA prior to the release of The Road Warrior in 1981, possibly it would have been called Mad Max 2 instead of The road Warrior, or Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

That was the best of the franchise IMHO, but everybody’s miles vary
It is also fond memory for me, when my dad would pick me up from school on Thursdays, which were our early days all school year long, and take me to see a cool film, like R rated ones that my mom would never approve of.
The two that I remember most were The Road Warrior, and First Blood, and the Road Warrior was my favorite movie for a very long time, so that may have biased me going into watching the new one.

IDK, maybe I need to give the new one another chance and see if I can get into it.
Possibly I will see your points, or possibly I am just going insane, or have been all along and am getting a little sanity back, I get the two confused all the time.
but yeah, WTF, I will give it another go and get back to you sometime in the future and see if my opinion changed.

I always liked the first movie. Never went to Road Warrior or following ones.

The first one was cool for its use of easily obtainable cars. All the original Interceptors were just Ford Falcons with cool paint.

As did I. Despise George Bush Sr. and JR. for that matter, not find Ministry because of my hate for them, but thats politic talk.

The album,
“Psalm 69, the way to succeed and the way to suck eggs”
was a protest album against George Bush Sr and the gulf war.
The first song, N.W.O. (New World Order) is all about the gulf war.
as was Hero

It was a great album, so even if you liked George Bush Sr, its worth a listen, one of the best Ministry albums made.
Some of my favorite tracks
N.W.O
Just One Fix (opens with a sound clip of Chloe Webb playing Nancy Spurgon in Sid and Nancy saying “Never Trust a Junkie”)
Hero
Psalm 69
and the one track, I forget the title, but “Connect the god damn dots”. that was a great track as well

The “Land of Rape and Honey” - Stigmata is my favorite track on that one
and
“The Mind Is. Terrible thing to Taste” wasalso great albums. I LOVE the song SO WHAT, its a long song, but I could listen to it for like an hour straight and the song Burning Inside is incredible as well. Breath and thieves are good ones too. Hell, the whole album was awesome.

The Dark side of the Spoon was ok, as was Filth Pig.
I have not heard much from them since those however.
I know they played their last show in like 2008 or so, I just moved back from Arizona and missed it by a month or so.
But of course, they then played some more LAST SHOWS. but in all honesty, I have no idea if they ever got back to playing live beyond 2010 or not.
Probably easy enough to find out, I am just thinking aloud here. Oops, did. your guys actually hear me say that?

And @John_E if you like the Ministry stuff, do you know The Butthole
Surfers?

If not, “Independent Worm Saloon” is a must listen to, such a great album

And if you have not gotten into Rev-Co (The Revolting Cocks)
gotta listen to “Linger Ficking Good”

Not gonna get started, but yeah. Oh yeah.

Or start with Big Sexy Land, IMO their best work (and what really got RevCo going).

Ministry was kind of a focal point for two whole genres - electroindustrial and industrial metal. They didn’t create either genre, but there was something about Al that just made him the natural center of both.

I was way more in to other bands in that space at the time - primarily Skinny Puppy (and other bands on Nettwerk), and Front 242. But I was always around for new Ministry stuff. RevCo was basically Ministry + Front 242 + Skinny Puppy and a few others, and all awesome. The Ministry years with Al and Paul Barker really produced some interesting stuff.

You have watch Mad Max 1979 to get the back story why he became mad Max then The Road Warrior and then Beyond the Thunderdome. That way you get the whole story.

It’s been ages since I watched Mad Max (the original), I admit that I didn’t even know about the following franchise. Is it good as in “actually good movies”, or good as in “trashy fun to be enjoyed with pizza and beer”?

Yeah, but in 1979, I don’t even think Mad Max was released in the USA theaters. In 1981, the road Warrior was. I had to wait a few years until Mad Max hit VHS, and we could rent it before I ever got to watch that, and we of course watched the road warrior again right after Mad Max

So, unfortunately, in 1979, 7 year old me didn’t have much say, and in 1981, 9 year old me didn’t really have a say still, but I got the great pleasure of seeing The road Warrior on the big screen.

It was probably in the mid 80s when they were both on VHS and we were able to rent them and watch them back to back

Or possibly I may write an essay, with visuals, pointing out things to look for and think about in your re-watching! (gleefully rubs hands together)

Yeah. So far I only know the first part, from the 1979 movie. But really I’m ok with that

I’ve got a huge list of movies to watch. To rewatch. Been going back and figuring out what classics I’ve missed (a lot of them). But man I just don’t have the time I want.
