忍
groans
Ah, I was thinking about です!?
Ok, so, for everyone not getting it, the first kanji in “ninja” has two readings… nin, and shino. And shinobi is the older term for ninja, which is also formed from that kanji.
My knowledge of Kanji is sadly lacking but as an anime fan I’m familiar with the Shinobi term.
Yeah the etymnology there really isn’t important I guess
LOL! I was focussing on the BE-ing aspect of it all. My eternal problem: overthinking. Suzuki and Watts would not approve!
That’s what I was thinking about when it popped into my brain though. I’m in way over my head here, but my understanding is 忍び の 者 translates to “shinobi no mono”, which commonly gets truncated to just “shinobi”. Versus “ninja” which is 忍者, but they mean pretty much the same thing - “person who is good at being sneaky” or something along those lines.
Anyway, nothing makes a marginal joke funnier than a deep analysis of it.
I say that to set up the second part of the joke:
“And we only play in STEREO around here!”
Yep, and I would guess is how ninja became a word over time; a contraction and corruption of 忍びの者, basically “person of stealth”.
Too funny, history proved him wrong. I am a big Pink Floyd fan, from Piper to Uma Guma and Atom Heart Mother. I can even groove with a Pict. Wish You Were Here, which Shine On You Crazy Diamonds is on, is considered by many to be their best studio work in retrospect.
And I would like to say every time I have seen One of these Days performed Gilmour played a lap steel guitar and not rhythm.
The saying should be those who can do, those who can’t criticize
And I am sitting here, having just woken up wearing what I slept in, a hoody over a Pink Floyd singlet
WTF? Looks like a Japanese Pink Floyd tribute band
But do you remember the guy that wrote that criticism?!
Yeah, me neither.
Pigs Floyd is more like it.
