I have zero opinion of the guy as I’ve never watched any of his stuff.
That said, just watch and listen to anything you dig, negative opinions be damned as any one of them is worth precisely what you paid for it.

I am in the same boat as you, I find it educational but often over my head.
I may not subscribe to his opinions, but I always get something out of his videos

I like some of the interviews he’s done (the one with Kim Thayil for example was terrific) but I’m not really a fan of his stuff.

My favorite example of this was the SUV ad using Pogues’ “Sunny Side of the Street.”
Including the first verse.
“Well I saw a train and I got on it /
with a heart full of hate and a lust for vomit…”

That was really great.
So many inspired song/state pairings! It was a full-on, turn-it-up-to-11 bash throughout the arena.

I guess there is no “consensus”, but that people who seem to not like him are perhaps a bit more outspoken about this than the people who like his stuff!?
I do tend to like his approach to many things (not all, of course) and am (subconsciously) envious of the career he has made in music (and I don’t mean YT here), as I might have dreamt about a similar career path at some point when I was younger 
I credit him (and Adam Neely) for re-kindling my passion for music about six years ago and am very grateful for that. Of course, this is a super personal stance, and I understand why some of the things he says and does might irk people. I chalk a lot of it off to his underlying enthusiasm (which makes him forget sometimes that other people don’t have perfect pitch or are necessarily getting excited over finding an F# juxtaposed to a double inverted A dim 6/9 chord (nonsense stuff here added by me for exaggeration!)
