Acoustic Bass Guitars…

I did find that the metal picks caused a lot of unwanted clanking. But the plastic banjo picks worked great.

I’ve tried a whole bunch o acoustics, and for my preferences I like the good old Kramer Ferrington the best. Fella good. Not too big. Etc

I bring my ABG when we travel in our fifth wheel. I recently got a Fishman Loudbox Micro that I plug into and it’s sounds awesome, being that it’s tonally matched to represent an acoustic sound. This solved the issue of not being loud enough when jamming with acoustic guitar players.

Don’t know if it’s already mentioned, but didn’t @JoshFossgreen mention a purchasable thumbrest that fits any acoustic bass in one of his bass gadget videos? I’m sure he was more than positive about it by his result: ‘Get it!’

This makes you able to pick any acoustic bass you want at any price. More options might help you.

That product has since vanished, but I met these folks at NAMM and seems like a decent option (if you can get used to the funny size/angle):

I bought myself a Fender CB-60SCE acoustic electric bass recently. I fell in love with the look and the warm sound. It’s really different from the electric bass when it comes to sound, look and feel. I was wondering before buying it whether I might get in trouble because of having no thumb rest there, but it has been working astonishingly well without that. Of course an acoustic-electric bass will never be as loud as an electric bass, even when plugged in, but I believe that it should be good enough for an acoustic gig.

That’s the same model as the one I have, though a different finish. I find it’s fine volume-wise until my plucking hand drifts away from the soundhole and it then gets a lot quieter. The problem is that the soundhole is significantly farther forward as compared to any of the electric basses I normally play.

One thing to watch out for is I found the action to be really high on mine and it’s not so easy to adjust on a acoustic. I got my local guitar shop luthier to fix it. He took the saddle off, sanded a little off the bottom and replaced it. Perfect!

The problem with these on an acoustic with the normal large round soundhole is that hole means they have to to be mounted too far above the strings for my comfort.

I keep meaning to make my own that will go across the soundhole. Should be easy enough but I just haven’t got around to it.

I also found this one and many others if you seach long enough.

I guess I need to have the action adjusted as well since it’s really high indeed. But I somehow got used to that high action already. I really like that bass, it’s just so beautiful in look and sound.

Yeah I’ve come across a few people saying it has a high action as shipped. Might be worth having it looked at. It was pretty cheap; I think he only charged me about £40 and had it done the same day.
